Go look up a talk called The Call to Courage by Brené Brown. I think she's also done a Ted talk, you can probably find that too by Googling her name.
She's a social worker who specializes in shame and vulnerability. You wouldn't think these are things you can study, but I'm not a social worker so what do I know. Point is, it's a talk worth hearing, for literally everyone, it's got a lot of stuff that I am at this moment thinking hard about, and I could write a million fanfics trying to instill her ideas into the lonely, hurting people of this internet and never finish.

I think Heartshine has posted some good blog posts about these things too.
Oh! I love Brené Brown. She has a lot of interesting things to say! I remember reading her books and spending a lot of time thinking about it. Shame is a fascinating topic, albeit a painful one. Especially since it shows up in so many contexts, and affects us in so very many ways throughout our lives.
Also Super Trampoline is right, though I've not specifically gone into what she's talked about, I'm sure that's shown up in small ways here and there in the random psychology blogs I've done!
