    Personal Update

    So

No worries, stories and chapters are still being worked on, this isn't a "I'm quitting on everything" post.

    Just a quick update.

I got a bit more writing done on the final chapter over the holiday break, not as much as I wanted to, but I did make a good bit of progress.

hope y'all like it, it is past my bed time, or the time i go to bed in order to be a functional, well-rounded adult.

    big chapters coming soon

Family Tree chapters 29 & 30 are almost done being edited, and I want to release them together, maybe a day or two apart to give people to digest and comment on 29 first.

almost done with new FT chapter

i've mentioned it before, but the gap between now and Nightmare Night is killing me, its all original story that i haven't been carefully planning for years now (save for one scene) and i can't help but feel insecure about it.

pony love/"sexuality" headcanons · 12:11am May 6th, 2019

okay. so.

I think that in the canon of Family Tree, there are some ways that pony society views romantic/ etc. relationships that i will explain here in this post, as promised, but the explanation has no place in the story as of yet, without seeming like a lore dump

and we ain't got time to dive into gender, just sexuality today kiddos.

so here goes:

first of all: I refuse to believe that a world where friendship/love are tangible, harnessed magic forces that hold the world together, homophobia is a thing. that being said, i have imagined a few scenarios in which a pony being gay/ace/etc. is frowned upon by certain circles, but certain circles only. imagine a scenario like "quick! i need a couple in love's magic to make this spell work to save the world!! but only a straight one, ew."

i imagine that it could, at least in my story, kind of work like this:

monosexual: a rarer sexuality in the pony world, when you only swing one way. mares for mares, mares for stallions, stallions for mares, or stallions for stallions. example in my story: Rarity. while i do think Rarity is a prime girl/girl romance character in other people's worlds/stories, in mine she's mono, she's only attracted to stallions.

monosexuals are considered rarer because they're "limited" in their choice of partners, and/or have much less of a chance in getting into a "herd/harem" situation. if a mare was only into mares, but her partner was also into stallions, there would be less of a chance of them having kids through a stallion because they're a package deal. this is strictly a "having kids is important" scenario and is not really frowned upon by general society. same for stallions/stallions, who would be viewed through the same "having kids is important" lens. this can be frowned upon in circles of nobility, like "you're a stallion who only likes stallions, etc., but you have to suck it up and give us an heir"

polysexual: a pony who is open to any gender/sexuality in a partner and can fall for/can be attracted to anypony who suits them. example in my story: Pinkie Pie. she could be attracted to anypony, so long as she likes their personality.

polysexuals could be into just about anypony and generally have an attraction to "types" rather than genders. There are some polysexuals in the pony world who find that that attraction to "types" rather than gender can apply to other species too, so if they were into say, the "kind and shy", and they met a zebra/donkey/dragon/griffin/etc. of that personality, the attraction will still stand. But for some, their internal prejudices could get in the way of those attractions. "I can't find a griffon attractive, I'm a pony. griffons are too ______, it would never work out.", etc.

asexual (ace): attraction to nopony. can be split into asexual/aromantic just like with people, and combined with "monoromantic, polyromantic, etc." example in my story: Twilight (asexual/polyromantic). she's not interested in the physical parts of a relationship, but she can fall in love with anypony regardless of gender.

asexuals aren't really frowned upon, save for in circles where "we're a clan/nobility and we always have heirs to pass down our power/land/etc." types of situations. and they might be considered "odd" in families where the family runs a business and kids are needed to pass the shop/business down to. but adoption is always an option in equestria, so it's not too big of a deal.

anyway, that's the long and short of it. i imagine there's always a little grey area to these things, but in terms of "what ponies can be", that's what i think can happen. and of course it's going to vary from other species cultures. maybe it's different for yaks? who knows?
