Wisdom Thumbs

I don't have a muse, I have a mule. Early-onset arthritis in both thumbs inspired the handle. If you like pencil art, czech out my DeviantArt page. http://wisdom-thumbs.deviantart.com/

(cancelled with a bonus chapter) It was a land where dark defeated light, where an eye cost an eye, and clouds defeated pegasi. It knew not sun nor moon, for steel ruled that land... Until dragons filled the sky, and a knight came to find out why.

    Going strong, FIMfiction.

It's strange, but I've been active/semi-active on this site for over eleven years. That's twice as long as I puttered about on Fanfiction.net, where this username/gamertag evolved from a pompous mouthful that included the words "Great" and "of." :trixieshiftright: It's even stranger to think that I've been reading and writing fanfiction for eighteen years, starting on sites like Gametalk. I

Requesting a proofreader, & "The Last Duel"

I'm writing a short story collection that bridges MLP:FiM and DnD lore. It's surprisingly simple in concept, but broad in scope, because it's a total rewrite of Swordpony. The most important changes:Spike's egg is the focus, and Grogar is the villain, not some unnamed deer god of death. I daresay you'll find it fits DnD mythos to a tee, to the point that you might question: Did

    New Generation is surprisingly good

When a Netflix movie about my little ponies has more nuance and insight than most of Earth's professional journalists... Maybe that's not saying much, but it does give a little hope. I especially liked the interplay between g4 lore and g5 lore. That's good mystery.

    In Pursuit

    That's the title.

A short series of chapters featuring Zephyr Breeze's rise from ignominy to physical fitness, a place in the Wonderbolts, his fall from grace, and then his pursuit of wing and wind sciences as RD's attache/fiance.

Someone chose not to write this. Are you thankful, or forlorn?

    Crafty's Footwork

Horses are not naturally left-footed or right-footed. One front foot must land before the other, and horses choose which foot comes first. The faster a horse moves, the easier they can change leads. It's a little counter-intuitive, and hard to recognize in videos. They naturally have four movement speeds, called "gaits." Many so-called experts mistakenly call these *three gaits.*

(thank you Morfonious for this screenshot)

Thankfully it's already been un-featured. But still. That's some irony right there.

Just to reiterate, the old Swordpony is cancelled. I haven't watched the show since the movie came out. My little brother was Swordpony's target audience, and the only person I could watch the show with.

The special bonus chapter that's been added to Swordpony is a farewell. Consider it a fiery arrow, shot into the funeral boat as the story's remains sail downriver. It was written shortly in the early months of 2015, before the "Hardhome" episode of Game of Thrones. After "Hardhome," I gave up on Swordpony and focused on escaping my narcissistic sociopathic father. After I escaped the family farm, I focused on my job as a bricklayer in Oklahoma. Since then I've had a string of construction jobs, I've lost my brother, been the victim of significant physical and mental abuse (from the person I least expected), and moved twice.

The song in this special bonus chapter is, however, new. One of the reasons behind Swordpony's stagnation is that I wanted to learn music, and I always wanted to include songs in Swordpony. Music is such an integral part of Equestrian life and magic. After my brother's suicide, I finally turned to music as an escape from grief. The "Battle Song" resulted over the course of the last year, as I slowly shaped the lyrics I'd always wanted into... well, it's more of a poem than a song (it's only lyrics). But I think it's the first thing I've written since Jimmy's suicide.

Please don't get your hopes up. If you do like what's here, I suggest reading "The Weak." It remains my best work.

There is a google doc where a revised outline for Swordpony exists, as a thought exercise. But that's a different story, with a different title, and it's unlikely to ever see the light of day. It follows a similar plot, with more focus on Spike's origin story and knighthood. I'm no longer a fan of edgy bloodshed for the sake of entertainment.

Will I ever watch Friendship is Magic again? Maybe.

Will I ever write fanfiction again? No idea.

All that said, consider this a funeral pyre for Swordpony. And consider it also a celebration of "Game of Thrones," which has beaten me to everything. Bless George R. R. Martin, David Benioff, and Dan B. Weiss.

(fun facts: Swordpony began as a ripoff of "The 13th Warrior," with elements of "A Song of Ice & Fire" and passages stolen from "The Wise Man's Fear." It was initially mistaken for a Skyrim fanfic by readers on Equestria Daily)

Just watch pony like you would the new star wars stuff. Low expectations, take the good and fun parts for what they are.

I'm actually a fan of The Last Jedi because that's how I consume media. Low expectations, and carefully examining the positives. There are always negatives, and it can be fun to critique to pieces, but critique must go hand in hand with appreciation.

It's just a matter of how much time there is in the day. And there's never enough.

Hadn't realized you'd stop watching the show, but I totally get it. I had to play catch up with Season 6 before 7's premeire, because I'd graduated college and moved out to get a job. A job that I should probably be getting too now, but I've been really interested in going through your blog!

I still really liked it while it was here. You did good.
