Fic recs, March 29th! · 12:33am Mar 30th, 2019
Midnight29 has done a reading of Scribblestick's Stetson! And Scribbler's newest reading is Ponydora Prancypants's Ghosts, with Mica Franchi, Emogak, GutiuSerenade, Jxnny and Webshoter!
I've been collecting random fics lately for some reason. Here's five of them!

Two Heavens by Regidar
Genre: Episode Followup
They were right: Terramar doesn't have to choose between land and sea.
I can't really add more to this than the author's note posted as the first comment on this story. Regidar saw a story, saw its potential unfulfilled, and sought to fulfill it himself, which he did quite admirably. If anyone out there was unsure whether Surf and/or Turf was about divorce, this ought to convince you it was. And was handled not as well as it could have been.

Your Own Worst Enemy by Monochromatic
Genre: Rom-Com
Just why is Twilight dating Rarity's human counterpart?
This was great. :D Rarity's in full 120% drama queen mode, the scene transition jokes are funny as hell, and I never expected the "what's going on" to be what it was. Suffice to say, this is hilarious and clever and I really, really enjoyed it. Highly Recommended for Shippers.

Honey, Where Are My Hands? by Inky Scrolls
Genre: Random
Why are ponies measured in hands if they don't have them?
I'm not sure how to feel about this one. It's got all the trappings of a fic after my own heart, Lyra-loves-hands and all, but… It's not quite as wacky as it really could have been, and furthermore has something of a Monty Python ending, which is to say, no punchline. That it suggests some kind of continuation is neither here nor there, to be honest. Huh.

The Wandering Shadows by Journeyman
Reading by Crafty Arts
Genre: Horror
The defeat of Nightmare Moon heralded great changes for Ponyville and its inhabitants, especially one pony...
Screw Loose; now there's a pony I haven't read about in ages. I really like the backstory this gives her, what she was doing before she went crazy; it seems like it would fit perfectly well into canon. On the less canonical side of things, this has something of the Lovecraftian about it, as she dreams about being in the body of an Ancient One, trying to help them assemble a repository of knowledge from all across the stars. In the daytime, she sees shadow creatures harming ponies in ways they can't perceive. There's a lot of references to animation errors (and one character disappearance from early seasons) that's maybe a little goofy, but as a horror fic, it's not too bad.

Friendmaker by Lets Do This
Genre: Twyrant?
Starlight's encounter with Daybreaker has gotten Twilight worried…
This wasn't what I expected. Concerned about her own possibility to succumb to something like the Nightmare urge, Twilight interviews a bunch of past villains, asking them what pushed them over the edge, so to speak. Everyone from Luna on down to Trixie gets a scene wherein they deconstruct their own motives, and some of the conclusions were surprising. I will note that the writing in the opening set my expectations low, and there's a little overwriting of Applejack's accent (something I haven't seen in a while), but this was interesting. Maybe a little silly, the whole "Friendmaker" business, but definitely worth exploring.

I have a dream that one day you'll recommend one of my fics!
Keep 'em coming. My library has grown because of you.
Ah yes sweet validation
I’m super glad you liked the fic, always a pleasure to get one of your reviews (especially when I can land a proper “recommended” instead of a conditional one)
