With my child on an apparent WALL-E watching binge I am reminded that it contains a dynamic that is a very particular soft spot of mine:

Was in a pet shop the other day. They had a big box of things you could throw for you dog. Among them were branded items. Among the branded items were MLP products.

I'm not sure if it's me, but it feels oddly grim to purcahse a Rainbow Dash exclusively for your dog to maul.

    Suppose there's a possibility they'll be gentle, but still. It's a risk, isn't it?

Oh yes, this - I hadn't been aware of this but this happened, too:

For the longest time I was racked with curiosity as to where the TVTropes redirects for And When the Darkness Comes Around were coming from and I had almost given up hope on finding out the source, only to finally discover what it is.

I will never stop being amused at the consternation and confusion of some when confronted by my mastery of the tagging system.

I always knew, from fairly early on at least, that the little bunch of stories about Jack was going to stretch to five and also from fairly early on I had a reasonable grasp of what was going to happen in it. Generally speaking, I mean - this is still me, I'm not planning shit. But I definitely knew how it was going to end. That part I even jotted down so I wouldn't forget.

Now it's just a case of filling in the blanks and smoothing out the bits that connect.

And I don't know if maybe it's just because I'm coming down with something but suddenly it just strikes me as so maudlin! It's getting dangerously close to the regular stuff I write. And given that people are enjoying the fluffier angle - and rightly so! It's why I'm here! These pony guys are cute! - they may find themselves somewhat disappointed.

A long-form way of saying that the ending is, perhaps, not as happy as you might hope. But we shall see. I'm feeling ill and it's scrambling my brain.

A funny trend I've noticed when it comes to planning stories is how the characters often get away from you. You find value in your work you never anticipated, and what you originally laid out suddenly seems less appealing.

If you feel like the original planned ending no longer works, consider just not rolling with it. But hey, you do you.

It works, it's just so bloody miserable!

I'll finish it in time, I'm sure, and everyone can judge for themselves.

And I'll do something more cheerful for balance...

I felt like this story was always going to end sadly. It makes me sad but I think a depressing end is fine. Sometimes things just dont work out for the better. If this did end on a happy note id take it but I would feel like it might be foreced at this point. At least with the little hints you are leaving.

Fair enough. I had rather the impression that the strength of the story stemmed from its somewhat absurdist comedy paired with a more tragic and serious undertone, but I can see how you might be building up to something else. All comes down to what you want to say.

So, what kind of thing are we talking about? More bittersweet melancholy, or does Jack have ultra-cancer?

ZOMBIE CANCER!

Ahem, no. Nothing as bad as they - it's not like he dies or anything.
