so far I have a general idea of where I want the story to go, thanks mostly to being able to bounce ideas off of Caldoric. but I find myself in need of some ideas for a number of countries, Cultures, traditions, things like that.
so, feel free to look through the list of countries, I've provided general pointers, but if anyone has more specific ideas then they'd be much appreciated.
Equis (North Western Continent):
Frozen North-west region
Northern Changeling Empire: A completely blank slate
Siberia: Again, a blank slate, but it's predominantly inhabited by sapient polar bears if that helps.
Reindeer Country (better name pending): Rural Canada (Eh?)
Stirrupe & the Frozen North
Trottinghamshire: further divided into 4 main regions; The Southern Downs (typical southern England, predominantly unicorns), The West-Wards (West Country England, complete with its own language known as Kernowek, predominantly pegasi), Yarvik (Industrial Yorkshire, has its own dialect of common heavily influenced by griffin languages, predominantly heavily built earth ponies similar in stature to Troubleshoes), and Trottingham City itself.
Caracoler: 17th century france.
Meira: Tribal Ireland
Alba: pre-UK Scotland.
Heimut: blend of Imperial Germany and Pre-WW2 Germany.
Cervbuckenland: Kingdom of Bohemia, inhabited by deer.
Annelida's Changeling hive: my interpretation of a less antagonistic changeling hive, they gather their love in the form of appreciation through shows of goodwill, a bit like a monastery or nunnery.
Thestralia: Polish-Lithuanian commonwealth.
Zemlyastali: Soviet Russia
Yakyakistan: refer to the show
Crystal Empire: refer to the show

Equestria: Refer to the show.
Everfree Forest & Whitetail Forest: Deer inhabited autonomous protectorates of Equestria.
Mexicolt & Appleoosa : Equestrian Territories
Buffalo Lands: Native American culture
Southern Equis
Southern Equis Badlands: Refer to the MLP Movie
Okoto: Imperial China, inhabited by Qilins (read as in-show Kirins).
Storm Empire Territory: Something capitalistic, if the way the Storm King went on about merchandise & trends and had former pirates ferrying said merchandise about is anything to go by, but also imperialistic and totalitarian.
Aquastria: Refer to the movie.
Chrysalis's changeling hive: refer to the show.
Austangard (The North-Eastern Continent)
Bothnia (Northern Austangard)
Vinnilia, Jermania, Kurgania, and Herulia: Diamond dog inhabited, Tribal European
Kenland, Jomsgaard, Griffish Isles, and Griffinsten (Griffonstone): Griffin inhabited, Norse/Scandinavian influenced.
Mongrowlia: Diamond Dog inhabited, read as "Diamond Dog mordor", culture heavily inspired by the orc tribes from Shadows of War. Main point of entry is via a massive gate
Almastia: Homeland of The Storm King's species, diplomatically reclusive due to the harsh weather, but welcoming of travellers into their mountain cities.
Tirdynbuwch: Homeland of the Minotaurs, inspired by middle earth dwarves with steampunk tech thrown in

The Iron Empire/Ferrovia: shades of Halo's Covenant.
Centaur Territories: Tirek's homeland, reclusive & xenophobic.*
Gargoyle Kingdom: currently ruled by King Scorpan; wielder of the Staff of Sacanas.*
Abyssinia: homeland opf Capper's kind, if the comics are to be believed*
* I don't have access to the comics, so I can't do much further reading, but if anyone can summarize any major lore points from the comics which tie in with those three nations then that would be much appreciated.
Southern Austangard
Alicornia: Holy Roman Empire, Isolationist, Fantasia resides here in her physical form as its empress, inhabited by natural-born Alicorns (same size as regular ponies, magically on par with Twilight Sparkle before she became an Alicorn) as well as regular ponies.
Dragon Lands: refer to the show.
Parlement of Chaos: Homeland of the draconequus species (they make exceptionally liberal use of pocket dimensions to live in, thus they don't need to inhabit much physical space), practically no form of government besides a parliament which oversees the fair self-application of laws to prevent too much chaos tipping the natural order of the world out of balance, and a modicum of a border force ensure that that gate for tartarus is kept secure.
Tartarus/Hell/The Pit: Terra's dumping ground for highly dangerous individuals and magical entities, exists as an anarchic state akin to mad-max.

Southern Equestrian Republic: Equestrian territory with a heavy African cultural influence.

The Savannah: Feudal state inhabited by sapient animals living under a "might makes right" way of life, contains prehistoric megafauna living alongside modern day mammals
Sauria: Dinosaur lands, sapient saurian races.
