It's not getting from A to B. It's not the beginning or the destination that counts. It's the ride in between that matters

    Update on the story

Note: this is NOT an april fools, just a poorly times spur of the moment update on my part

Yeah, it's been a while, writers block got in the way, then life kept me away. I don't want to give up on the story as I have enough scraps of ideas for at least another book after this (not that this one is close to finishing).

for those wondering what the folks of the matoran universe, etc. have been getting up to all this time

here's a little regional map I managed to churn out today

if Equestria is north of the equator, these guys are situated firmly towards the ass-end of Terra, which means from their perspective the sun and moon have been acting extremely fucky and no one knows why

    world building: Units of measurement

I've never been too keen on using the foot as the standard unit of measurement in Equestria, that sent me on a tangent to "standardise" some equestrian units of length, the results of which you see below, and can expect to see me use within the universe from now on.

the phrase "used in place of" should be taken to mean informally

here's a little regional map I managed to churn out today

if Equestria is north of the equator, these guys are situated firmly towards the ass-end of Terra, which means from their perspective the sun and moon have been acting extremely fucky and no one knows why

Here's a run down of all the nations:

The Matoran Alliance: not much that needs explaining, really. It's primarily comprised of 6 distinct regions, one for each primary matoran element, along with a capital Metru that used parts of the original metru nui as its foundation. secondary Matoran elements like Gravety, sound, and Lightning, all reside within one of the six regions, typically one most similar to their own, these are as follows:

  • Ta Nui: Iron*, Plasma
  • Ga Nui: Psyonics
  • Onu Nui: Gravety
  • Ko Nui: Sound
  • Le Nui: Lightening, Plantlife
  • Po Nui: Magnetism

*I went with Fe Matoran residing in Ta Nui because the place has a lot of foundries

these days the Matoran actually operate a standing military, the Ga Matoran run the Navy whilst the Le Matoran run the air force. The toa are more like independent piece keepers, they're seldom seen participating in any drawn out conflicts.

The Agori Republic definitely has much more of a civilized appearance on the surface, the Matoran alliance has a lot of tribal customs and traditions, whilst the Republic would remind one of ancient Greece in terms of the day to day lives. the Glatorians are essentially an elite soldier, supporting a standing army that each tribe posseses.

The Matoran Aliance & The Agori Republic can be seen as kind of like the equivalent of anglosphere nations, like the UK and US or the US and Canada. largely similar and on friendly terms, but they still have differences in regards to nitty gritty internal politics as well as differences of culture

on the whole, Agori are slightly more selfish-minded & distrusting of outsiders, Matoran on the otherhand are more open-minded and welcoming.

Xia and The New Steltian Republic have a very rocky relationship due to past actions of individuals from both sides (IE Rodaka and Sidorak), and to this day are near constantly on the brink of war, this doesn't stop them from both making and selling weapons to anyone that will buy them

Rongonui's borders are defined more by its neighbours than out of any active attempts to maintain them internally, and the fact its name literally means "feral lands" in Matoran should clue you in as to why. it can best be described as a large region of varying biomes housing a number of feudal nomadic clans as well as being the collective dumping ground for exiled individuals.

Hordika also tend to make their own way here as it gives them a place where they can seek isolation if they so choose

The Black Legion is the spiritual successor to the Dark hunters, an army lead by the shadowed one largely comprised of renegade Skrall & Skakdi, along with former dark hunters as his elite soldiers (Along with, rumor has it, supposed Makuta that emerged after the reformation). they used to have a much larger territory, but this has been gradually ebbed away over the millennia by an active and surprisingly successful two pronged guerrilla warfare campaign waged by an alliance of the Zekot & Kliaki clans of southern Rongonui, along with skirmishes along the border with the Skakdi horde

The Skakdi Horde is another region defined by those outside its own borders, it's not so much a single sovereign nation as it is a bunch of warbands that spend just as much time fighting amongst themselves as they do with other countries

The Skrall Empire is a major player in the southlands, and on its way to becoming a legitimate world power on Terra.

The empire is second only to the Matoran alliance in land coverage, but it possesses the largest naval territory by far. Humans played a large role in helping the Skrall obtain such a large territory over such vast distances of water, and if you looked close enough you'd maybe spot some greek influence in their tactics, but even after their disapearence from Terra the Skrall were able to maintain their sphere of influence and even claw in a few more victories from the Agori for good measure
