world building: Units of measurement · 12:53am Jun 25th, 2019
I've never been too keen on using the foot as the standard unit of measurement in Equestria, that sent me on a tangent to "standardise" some equestrian units of length, the results of which you see below, and can expect to see me use within the universe from now on.
the phrase "used in place of" should be taken to mean informally
1. Bit: 2.032 cm or 0.8 inch (used in place of centimeters and inches)
2. Hoof: 10.16 cm or 4 inches (used in place of feet, the average height of a pony is roughly 10 hoofs, by happy coincidence)
3. Limb: 45.72 cm or 18 inches (4.5 hooves, typically used more formally in textiles and dressmaking)
4. width: 60.96 cm or 24 inches (6 hooves, used in place of yards or meters)
5. length: 143.5 cm or 56.5 inches (14.125 hooves, typically used more formally for measuring buildings and vehicles)
6. League: 3 miles
Trots are a useful measurement.
