It's ages since I've entered a writing contest, but then it's also ages since I wrote a story that didn't involve custard. Shrink Laureate's got me interested in changing that, with the Season 9 Bingo Writing Contest, which kicks off in a few days. (I don't know exactly when as no precise date is stated.) The way this works is that you get dealt five random bingo cards from the S9 bingo deck created by Oliver. You then get until S9 debuts -- whenever that is -- to write a short (1k-20k word) fic using a minimum of two of the cards and ideally all five.
You have to use what you're given -- there's an explicit rule that you may not request a re-deal if you don't like any of your cards. You do get a week after the deadline to give your fic a final brush-up, though. Looks like fun, doesn't it? I thought so, anyway, which is why I'm entering. There's a limit of 100 entrants, in order to stop the judging stretching on for years, but there are plenty of spaces left. Why not give it a go?
