Serious Stories · 4:45am Nov 1st, 2012

I'm partly responsible for this - in fact, I see that I'm a group mod now - so I oughta tell you about it. whatmustido created a group for... well, here's what he wrote:

Serious Stories ( <-- link )

Tired of seeing nothing but silly stories everywhere you look? Want to read something that actually challenges you? So do we.

This group is for those of us that think there is more to writing than being entertained for a few minutes. We're talking about stories that make you think when you're doneā€”or while you're still reading. Sure, you could just read classical literature, but there are no little ponies in classics. If you want a story that still has that feeling of fulfillment but with everyone's favorite diminutive equines, check here.

Besides my watchers, I'm notifying those of you who favorited one of my "serious stories".

Sounds interesting, and I already see tons of my favorites stories in there. Count me in!

I've seen a few of these groups pop up recently. e.g. FimFiction Gold Archives and Seattle's Angels. I hope at least one of them succeeds.

Already read most of the stories put in this group, so I'll follow it with a vengeance !

i have a 66.5k word unfinished fic, does that count :derpytongue2:
I mean it's not very good but i'm devoted to writing it for the select few who want an ending to it

I'm interested, but on a purely philosophical level. I'm interested in what makes something a "serious story." Whether or not a story makes one think seems to be a wholly subjective criteria. . . one persons philosophical revelation is another persons high school puesdo-intellectualism is another persons complete and utter BS. (This tends to be the case with classic lit, as well.)

Then there's the question of authorial intent. Did one have to aim to put those questions or answers out there, or can it be stumbled upon? Or, conversely, is it sufficient that an author meant to ask those questions, even if he did so clumsily?

Is there a public discussion about what kinds of fic qualify? I'm fascinated by that part, if not the fics themselves.

Pinkie Pie am disappoint.:pinkiesad2:

Instajoins! I mean, Starlight Over Detrot might be comedy but there's some dark stuff in there too. Oh, thank you my dear sweet Bad Horse! You are my savior! I just finished Of Gears, Steam, and Wings... I needed something awesome.

466117 I thought that sounded a little condescending, but I didn't write it.
I have a hunch Pinkie Pie would like the comedy group better.

Heh. I know someone's going to add Pinkie Pie Watches Paint Dry.

There will be if you join the group and start a new thread!

466083 Size doesn't matter. Being unfinished is okay. Even quality isn't essential; I want authors to be able to promote their stories by putting them in groups. But looking at the picture and description of your story, it looks like an adventure story, some variety of epic fantasy. We're using "serious" to mean stories with a philosophical bent, not to mean stories where dangerous or epic (and in that sense serious) events take place.

well then my appologies I appear to have missunderstood
