The part of Texas that I live in is currently experiencing the 2nd worst wildfire disaster, and growing. Over 850,000 acres have been burned, and several towns/cities close to me have been evacuated. The fire's spread slowed down, just as it was about to hit a neighboring city, although an entire subdivision was forced to evacuate.
The fire is visible from my hometown.

The Last Birthday. We were talking about immortality fics and how most of them undermine the concept of being immortal for so long -- then there's The Last Birthday, which I consider to be the middle finger of the genre (that's a good thing). I only read the first half of the story, but I do remember enjoying what I read, so I plan on reading the rest soon. ;)
