A Few Changes to the Works of Adda le Blue · 9:51am Aug 17th, 2018

Well, it's finally happening. I've found myself buried in a rut, unable to move forward with horsewords. I hope it's because I'm fixating too much on mistakes of the past, though I can't rule out that it's due in large part to the same disinterest that has kept me from finishing even season five of MLP:FiM. In any case, I've decided that it's long past time to fix up the old stories.

First and foremost, I believe I've successfully knocked How the Other Half Lives from a Mature rating down to Teen. The awkward chapter is a lot less awkward, and the explicit nature of the writing has been wiped away completely. While I stand by the arguments I've made—that the characters and story demanded that events unfold the way they did—I also am confident enough a writer now to swat the characters across the noses with a newspaper, haha. I feel it's best for the story, and for the audience, to avoid straddling the line; it was never supposed to be pornographic. Emphasis on "graphic". Yeesh. Anyway, I'd be ecstatic if I could get a pair of eyes or few to read it over and let me know if it's safe to knock the rating down to a T. Your opinions mean a lot to me, after all, and I trust your eyes (and morals of a personal nature) more than my own. Could you let me know what you think?

Those of you who remember my earliest mistakes will be pleased to see that the single 26,799-word chapter of Somepony Like Star Swirl has been pulled. At one massive chapter out of sixty-seven finished, it was a testament to my grand plans and failed execution; every time I wanted to start another huge project, that story stared me in the eyes and dared me to screw it up again. It's long past time that story left us. I'm debating doing the same with the Morning After Mother's Day, which seems to have stirred up a lot of emotions in its readers but brings me only shame when I think about it. We'll see.

I also plan to tinker with Folksong and All the Time in the World, and perhaps True Love Never Dies. Nothing drastic there; I just want to make it easier for the reader to understand what's going on. One of my main flaws as a writer has always been that I don't offer enough of the right information, relying on art and leaps of logic to do the job that could have been done easily by a brief description. Since those first two are my favorite stories out of everything I've written, I'll do what I can with each of them to help them live up to their potential.

With any luck, perhaps all his work on my past successes and failures will lead me back to the place I was before, and get my head right to write again. I would love to get to work on new stories or Miss Sparkle 2: Eclectic Scootaloo but, honestly, I'm most excited about a reboot of That Which I Hold Dear. I know a couple of spies who have a date with some clubgoers in Vanhoover. We'll see.

Thanks for the help and thanks again for reading. Even after all this time, it still means the world to me.

Thanks, hon. Honestly, all I need right now is motivation and time. Well, that and a set of eyes to let me know if How the Other Half Lives is suitably rewritten for a Teen rating. I hope to give you something worth reading soon.
