Equestria Girls Flipped! (Side: Canterlot High part 2)

Alright, so picking up where we left off E!Spike approaches the Canterlot High version of Ditzy Doo to try and get her help. Yeah, he's got plans for how to loosen Sunset's hold over the school and make it clear that he's not just gonna fall in line for her, but there's still a ton about this world he doesn't know about (not the least of which being how to use the technology). Luckily for him,

    Looking for some advice/inspiration.

I'm trying to start a fanfic where the main character has amnesia and I want to avoid the cliche "wakes up going 'where am I who am I?'" approach.

    Thoughts?

Equestria Girls Flipped! (Side: Canterlot High)

So you're all probably wondering what E!Spike is up to while CH!Spike is having fun in Equestria.

Well it starts with him getting to know the local police and their station pretty well.

    Equestria Girls Flipped! (Side: Equestria)

After quite a few failed attempts to start this and a bit of thought I realized it will likely be a lot easier to write (and read) this summary if I divided up the two story lines (Equestria and Canterlot High) and then brought things back together when they actually intersect.

    Therefore, welcome to:

Equestria Girls Flipped! (Side: Equestria) · 4:32pm Jul 29th, 2018

Side: Equestria

So in the last post CH!Spike was in a bit of a fix. He'd been helping Sunset Shimmer steal the Element of Magic only for E!Spike to catch the two of them, then tackle Sunset back through the portal they'd used causing it to close. So CH!Spike is now stranded in Equestria and a couple of the palace guards burst in on him as he's trying to find a way to get through the mirror...

Only, he's not in trouble. The guards saw Spike (E!Spike that is) chasing two intruders trying to steal the Element of Magic, and in the mirror room they find Spike with the Element of Magic and no intruders. They take some precautions, naturally, but seeing as changeling detecting spells turn up negative and the Element still has its defensive charm on it they conclude that everything turned out okay. They ask Spike to carry the Element of Magic back to its proper place then lead him back to his room saying they'll take care of reporting the matter to the princesses. CH!Spike, stunned over how friendly the guards are being, doesn't argue and just follows their lead. Once he's in "his" room he finally snaps out of things enough to begin wondering what just happened before deciding this whole mess is a weird dream and that he's just going to go to bed and wake up back in his own room.

Spoiler alert: He doesn't.

CH!Spike gets an unpleasant wake up call the next morning from Twilight. Apparently he's overslept and the two of them are going to be late for breakfast and a meeting with the princesses! CH!Spike is more concerned by the fact that his pet pomeranian puppy is now a three-foot-tall talking iguana before remembering his "dream" from last night and realizing that wasn't a dream at all. The whole thing leaves him shocked speechless and unable to argue as Twilight rushes him around to get ready and lead him off to the dining hall.

On the way CH!Spike finally gets a good look at Canterlot Castle which is both overwhelming and familiar. He starts to draw parallels between this world and his, recognizing a few of the castle staff by their faculty equivalents from his own world and noting a few similarities between the castle's layout and his school's (the stained-glass hall more or less being equivalent to the trophy case, dining hall = cafeteria, things like that). Speaking of, arriving in the dining hall for breakfast he immediately freezes up once he sees Big Mac, Cheerilee, Ditzy Doo, and Time Turner there. The audience doesn't get an explanation just yet but, upon Thunderlane showing up right behind Spike (he was running late too) and Spike's first reaction being to panic and drop to the ground the take away should be that CH!Spike isn't on the best of terms with his world's versions of the other Flipped Six.

Spike's panic attack draws some funny looks before he realizes that this Thunderlane isn't being mean to him. In fact, Thunder is both concerned and a little weirded out by his friend's reaction! The group rationalizes that Spike is probably just a bit jumpy after his encounter with the thieves last night, an excuse he latches on to before saying that he'll be fine and taking a seat (one that puts Twilight between himself and the others). During breakfast he gets the sense that not only do these weird pony-versions of the people he knows not hate him, they actually seem to be his friends! Obviously he can't question them about it without drawing suspicion but thankfully he dodges being posed any awkward questions (Like, "So who were the thieves?" or "What did they look like?") when Celestia and Luna arrive (and he draws the connection between the princesses and the principals of his school: "Wow. Now that's a promotion...")

So questions are asked about the theft and Celestia doesn't even need a description to know who the mastermind behind this was: Sunset Shimmer. The group gets the same exposition as canon, that Sunset was a former student who went bad and jumped through the mirror. Unlike canon, the question of how Sunset knew about the Elements is brought up, and Celestia reveals the magical diary she and Sunset used to use to communicate. Apparently the purification of Luna and redemption of Trixie, two of the ponies Celestia had felt she most let down, inspired Celestia. She figured that maybe Sunset could be persuaded to accept her apology and see the error of her ways, so Celestia had started writing her messages about what was going on with Equestria. The last one was about the upcoming Summer Sun Celebration and the celebration plans, which Sunset unfortunately seemed to take as a signal to make her move and try to steal the Element of Magic. Fortunately, Spike was there to stop her!

Cue CH!Spike, utterly gob-smacked. Even more so as the others extend their congratulations, but he manages to smile and accept the thanks before Celestia announces that they'll be increasing security prior to the Sun Raising and Knighting Ceremonies. Plans are made for rehearsal for the next day, giving the Flipped Six a chance to stretch their legs and tour around Canterlot (a place they've all been to before but a rarely have a chance to see when it's not mid-crisis). Spike is still reeling over all this. The pieces are slowly coming together but he's still missing huge chunks about why he's treated so differently in this world compared to his own. The others are all planning to head out into the city, but an idea occurs to Spike and he tells them he'll catch up before heading off to his room again and searching through his luggage.

Lucky him, one similarity between himself and E!Spike is he doesn't travel far without bringing a scrapbook of the articles he's written. CH!Spike starts flipping through it, reading all the articles his Equestrian counterpart had been writing starting with the one about Nightmare Moon's defeat. Now the situation makes much more sense as he realizes he's not only friends with the others in this world: He's considered a national hero as well! More importantly he notices a distinct lack of one person in particular: Sunset Shimmer. He's apparently known her for years back in his own world, but he realizes that if she's actually from this world it makes sense the pony version of him would never have met her.

Now, first instinct is obvious: CH!Spike starts wondering if there's any chance he could get his hands (hooves) on Celestia's diary and get a message to Sunset that he's still stuck in ponyworld. Then he stops and thinks about things for a bit, especially how much Sunset pushes him around, and slowly comes around to the idea that maybe hanging around in this world for a bit wouldn't be so bad. After all, Sunset failed to get the Element of Magic so she's bound to come back for it soon. In the meantime he has a whole world that considers him a hero.

So he heads out to meet the other Flipped Six and enjoy it!

Needless to say it doesn't take CH!Spike long to enjoy and start abusing his celebrity status around Canterlot (free food, hamming it up for autographs and pictures, getting special treatment or favors, basically think Princess Spike on steroids). That combined with his tendency to call Time Turner and Cheerilee "Mister Turner" and "Miss Cheerilee" without thinking raises a few eyebrows among the group, especially with Twilight who tries to get him to dial things back. Even the "we don't get treated like this everyday" argument is wearing a bit thin, but while patience for his antics gets a bit strained it never truly reaches a breaking point and the others still have a pretty good time. Though Twilight does caution Spike to maybe show a bit more decorum tomorrow since he's going to be knighted soon (a fact that only now occurs to him and just makes him even more giddy). As Twilight goes to bed, CH!Spike continues to tool around the city enjoying the perks of stardom (possibly capping up with him running into Rarity and winding up getting a date with her just to prove to himself how much better this world is). As such, he doesn't head back to the castle till long after the others have.

And on his way back to his room, he notices the magic mirror he came through glowing.

Heading in to check it out, CH!Spike sees Sunset Shimmer on the other side preparing to cross through. She's surprised to see him, but quickly covers up saying that she was afraid he'd have been locked up in the castle dungeons. She says she was about to come over and get him, but Spike counters that he's seen through her and that she's just coming back for the Element of Magic.

As it turns out Sunset is being half-truthful: She explains that E!Spike has been taking it upon himself to undo all her work controlling the students of Canterlot High so she wants both the Element of Magic and CH!Spike back. The spell rune she formulated to force open the mirror also temporarily lets the two Spike occupy the same world without causing problems (Something the mirror would do if it opens on its normal cycle, Sunset is basically cheating here using the diary like Twilight did for Rainbow Rocks). She plans to use that opening to push E!Spike back through so he can't disrupt her plans anymore.

Unfortunately, when she tries to go through, CH!Spike blocks her and pushes her back out of Equestria. He's found he rather enjoys being a hero in Equestria and doesn't want to be dragged back to a world where Sunset pushes him around and tells him what to do. In fact, he figures he'll be an even bigger hero if it gets out that he's managed to confirm that she can't come back to Equestria in order to enact her plan.

At which point, he knocks the mirror over and smashes it.

CH!Spike gets a good chuckle in, confident that now he won't have to give up his cushy hero life in Equestria. Unfortunately for him he doesn't notice two factors.

The first is Twilight, hiding outside the door, having heard everything.

The second is a tiny, black vine worming its way through a crack in the floor and snaking out through the window towards Celestia's room.

Oh, my. CH! Spike is gonna be in so much trouble.... :D

That plants back. I love to see spike undoing Sunsets work. I wonder how will spike get back though. Best of luck.
