Equestria Girls Flipped! (Side: Canterlot High part 2)

Alright, so picking up where we left off E!Spike approaches the Canterlot High version of Ditzy Doo to try and get her help. Yeah, he's got plans for how to loosen Sunset's hold over the school and make it clear that he's not just gonna fall in line for her, but there's still a ton about this world he doesn't know about (not the least of which being how to use the technology). Luckily for him,

    Looking for some advice/inspiration.

I'm trying to start a fanfic where the main character has amnesia and I want to avoid the cliche "wakes up going 'where am I who am I?'" approach.

    Thoughts?

Equestria Girls Flipped! (Side: Canterlot High)

So you're all probably wondering what E!Spike is up to while CH!Spike is having fun in Equestria.

Well it starts with him getting to know the local police and their station pretty well.

    Equestria Girls Flipped! (Side: Equestria)

After quite a few failed attempts to start this and a bit of thought I realized it will likely be a lot easier to write (and read) this summary if I divided up the two story lines (Equestria and Canterlot High) and then brought things back together when they actually intersect.

    Therefore, welcome to:

    Equestria Girls Flipped! Side: Equestria

Equestria Girls Flipped! (Side: Canterlot High part 2) · 2:22am Aug 31st, 2018

Luckily for him, CH!Ditzy proves to be rather easy to win over. Revealing himself as the mysterious "Purple Prose" who's promised to expose the truth behind those hurtful articles and offering her a sincere apology for all the crud that the "Derp of the Day" picture column put her through is more than enough to bring the sweet, forgiving Ditzy that E!Spike knows to the surface.

Granted he's not being totally honest with her just yet. Mostly because he (understandably) doesn't think she'd believe the truth behind his and Sunset Shimmer's original world just yet. For that matter he leaves Sunset out of this entirely, only saying that he knows who originated all the hurtful rumors and he plans to expose them, but until he has solid evidence he can't make a direct move against her. Yet another reason he needs Ditzy's help since, while she may not be popular, she's not universally hated by the student body like he currently is.

So Spike and Ditzy go into business together and start uncovering the truth behind all the rumor articles Sunset Shimmer had CH!Spike write. I'd like to say I had a lot of details planned out here but unfortunately not so much. Combined with CH!Spike having fun in Equestria chances are these scenes would've more-or-less been montaged together to show both Spikes making the best of the situation they've been given. Though, as mentioned in the previous entry, since the portal is currently closed that means the two worlds' time flow has fallen out of sync. As such, E!Spike spends several days writing articles and having Ditzy and Twilight help spread them around the school.

You're likely wondering what Sunset is doing during this time, and the truth is her attention is elsewhere. She's really more concerned about getting the portal open so she can steal the Element of Magic (a task made more difficult by the fact that Luna has assigned a guard to watch the statue until the vandal is caught). Then the first day or so of Spike's articles rotate around the school and she starts seeing the extent of what he's capable of and realizes she has a new problem. See, E!Spike's plan starts to have the intended effect pretty quickly: As he exposes the truth behind the rumors and scandals that were written up in the school paper, it opens the way for the students whose friendships were damaged by the rumors to start talking to each other again and realize that blame might have been misplaced over who was at fault for, say, Spike writing about an embarrassing secret or some hurtful comment that was taken out of context (when before those friends would've been blaming one another). This is resulting in those friendships being repaired and quite a bit of intermingling between the school's cliques.

And as the students reform their friendships with one another it's leaving less room for Sunset to manipulate them. A fact that she is not happy about.

Naturally she tries to nip this in the bud and goes right to the principals with the revelation over who "Purple Prose" really is. Only it turns out Principal Celestia and VP Luna had that pegged from the very first announcement. While skeptical at first, and aware Spike might technically be breaking a rule in order to write these new articles, he's really only retracting his own articles from the school paper and Luna even accepts that Spike's undergone a rather sudden, but positive, change in attitude. Neither Principal intends to do anything to stop Spike if he really wants to use this as a way to apologize for the stuff he wrote about, especially since his latest article finally disproves the rumors he'd started about two of the staff members (Cheerilee and Time Turner) being in a "clandestine office romance".

Sunset gets a little teeth gnashing in as she realizes that several of the students are apparently aware that Spike is writing the new articles as well, seeing as in just a matter of days he stops getting anywhere near the level of flak he was getting before. In fact, he's pretty much managed to establish (if not full-fledged friendships) some level of rapport at least with the Canterlot High versions of the other Flipped Six (Most of them anyway, Thunderlane is still on the fence). Then she gets wind of a rumor going around the school that "Purple Prose" is looking for proof to expose the source of all the rumors that drove the student body apart in the first place, and Sunset decides that (between that and stopping her theft of the Element of Magic), E!Spike has interfered in her plans enough.

So after school VP Luna sees Sunset hanging around, but excuses it as Sunset explains she's just taking care of some preparations for a class project. Since Sunset is still trusted by the faculty at least, Luna leaves her alone and heads off for the day.

At which point Sunset knocks on the janitor's closet and has her loyal goons Snips and Snails bring Spike out.

(If it feels like I'm rushing a bit I do apologize, but like I said aside from the basic plan of "E!Spike uses his own writing skills to undermine Sunset's hold on the school" I didn't have much planned for this section of the story until the action picked up again.)

So at this point it's time to resync the two worlds. If you read the Side: Equestria section this part will likely feel familiar only now you get to see it from the other side. Sunset has Snips and Snails distract the guard and have him chase them away from the statue, while she drags E!Spike up to it and applies the spray paint rune to open the portal. In doing so she's surprised to find herself facing down CH!Spike waiting on the other side, and even more surprised that he's far less obedient than usual. In fact, he's downright rebellious explaining how he's tired of Sunset pushing him around and that he actually likes it in Equestria.

While she's distracted by that, she's not paying attention to E!Spike. Or to the boy who suddenly sneaks up on the whole scene and unties him: Thunderlane! Yeah, already had his next article written up, one that'd put paid to (and apologize for) the original one that got Thunderlane kicked off the track team, and when Ditzy couldn't find Spike after school so that they could edit and copy it she decided to take it right to Thunderlane and show it to him to convince him to help look for Spike. Thunderlane might not understand what Sunset did to make the statue glow, but since he doubts she has anything wholesome planned for Spike he elects to step in and help the guy out. Despite Spike's protests, he slips off with him while Sunset is distracted.

At which point, much to both Sunset and E!Spike's horror, CH!Spike smashes the mirror on his side and cuts off the path back to Equestria. Sunset is fuming, even more so when she realizes Spike is gone, and the light show that resulted brings the guard back to catch her red-handed with the spray paint can still in her hand and the mark on the statue. Watching this unfold, Thunderlane just comments on how at least "Purple Prose" has a real scandal to expose now.

Only Spike's doesn't really care about that because he just watched his way home get closed for good. He barely even snaps out of it when Thunderlane pulls him off and it's not until he's reunited with Ditzy and Twilight that he realizes what all this means and finally breaks down. At which point he tells them about Equestria, Sunset Shimmer, and how he's stuck in this world now. A story that has the Canterlot High natives a bit skeptical but, seeing as Thunderlane has no other explanations for all the lights and glowing he saw and Ditzy is just that sweet, they're still sympathetic to his plight.

The situation seems pretty hopeless come the next morning though. Yeah, Sunset is in trouble and Spike won't have much trouble gathering what he needs to expose her as the rumor-monger, and yes a lot of friendships around the school have been repaired, but Spike's having a hard time being happy about that when he knows he's never going to see his real home or family again. At the very least he takes solace in the fact that Sunset's plans are utterly ruined so Equestria is safe, something he's sure of since she seems almost as crushed over the whole mess as he is.

And it's at this point, during lunch as Spike's watching all the students getting along again, that CH!Fluttershy comes running in to the cafeteria screaming.

Everybody is wondering what's up, but the answer comes following after her: A whole mess of thorny, black vines that start trying to force their way into the school. The students panic, but at the very least somebody gets the doors closed fast enough to keep them out. Plenty of kids start running, but Spike and Sunset both stop to take a look out the windows. And when they see the vines are coming from the statue in front of the school, Spike realizes something must be terribly wrong in Equestria. While Sunset...

Well, Sunset realizes her plans might still have a chance after all.

(and it looks like I'll probably be able to rejoin the two side for the remaining parts of this :))

this would have been a VERY nice story, and this is just the bluffs notes. Personally I would go back and read the story after seeing these, you might want to contact somebody from the Revive dead fanfics group and see if you can get yourself a ghost writer (at least I think that is what a ghost writer is)

God, how I would've loved to have seen this in fI'll story form.
