A JD Review - Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018) · 7:28pm Jul 10th, 2018

Marvel finishes off their summer with another winner.

With its 20th film, Marvel proves once again they can tell an exciting, heartfelt, and kick-ass adventure even with some of its more ridiculous characters. And once again, they have made another fantastic movie. Let's get into it!

NON-SPOILER REVIEW

Ant-Man and the Wasp is a sequel to 2015's Ant-Man, one of my current favorite Marvel movies and characters to be introduced in the MCU. The sequel takes place a few years after those events, two years after the events of Captain America: Civil War, and Scott Lang has to adjust back to normal life without the use of the Ant-Man suit. But with a new threat to deal with, and with the help of Evangeline Lily's Wasp, they have to undo what was wrought in the past to create a better future.

I loved this film. Not as epic in scale as Infinity War, but that's what I was expecting. This film is taking things back a notch, and showing that superhero films can be fun again after the heartbreak and suffering that Infinity War left. The action, acting, and writing were all on par. The story especially, I felt, was an improvement over the first film. If anything, I feel like the comedy could have been toned back a bit. It was good, don't get me wrong, but for some of the more serious moments--and this is a problem with Marvel as a whole--they tend to lighten it up with some comedy. The film kinda suffers from this a couple times.

Stick around for the post credit scene. It's worth it. The after credit scene though... you can just leave after the post credit scene.

Other than that, I thought this was a really good sequel to the first Ant-Man, which I would give an 8/10. An improvement all around! 9/10! What did you all think?

P.S. Currently working on the next chapter of Infinity Era. It'll be an Ant-Man and the Wasp chapter. No major spoilers in it. Unless you don't want to know what Luis and his gang have been up to since the events of the first Ant-Man, then you can skip the next chapter. :)

SPOILER REVIEW

So the story revolves around Hank Pym and Hope trying to get Janet, Hope's mother and Hank's wife, out of the Quantum Realm, where she has been trapped for thirty years. I really did think this was an engaging part of the film, especially with the reunion between husband and wife, and mother and daughter. Really touching. :pinkiesad2:

Also, wouldn't everything in the lab be destroyed if it was shrunk down and thrown around like it was in the movie? Yet everything was fine when they brought it back to normal size and walked inside? Whatever, you can't really think too much with the science in this movie.

As for that post credit scene I mentioned earlier, we are shown Scott, Hank, Hope, and Hope's mom Janet--who was brought back from the Quantum Realm--sending Scott right back into the Quantum Realm to acquire some healing energy for Ghost, who's just a good guy now... apparently. While inside the Quantum Realm, Scott is left hanging as Hope, Hank, and Janet are turned to dust. The very minute Scott was sent to the Quantum Realm is the very moment that Thanos snapped his fingers. Incredibly awesome post credit scene, and a definite tease to Avengers 4 next year, as Janet mentioned something about "time vortexes" in the Quantum Realm. Wonder what that could mean... :ajsmug: *cough* Time travel *cough*

Awesome film all around! 9/10! What did you think?

Currently working on the next chapter of Infinity Era (an Ant-Man and the Wasp chapter). Will only include minor spoilers, Luis and his gang of Wombats, but nothing too major. See ya then.

Did you read my review?

Just got back from seeing it myself! Really enjoyed it.

Loved the mid-credit scene, tied in well with AIW.

The after-credit scene... eh, didn’t really think it was necessary. Especially after the previous scene.

Other than that, great movie.

Now, I’m ready for the next chapter, spoilers and all. :raritywink:

Can't wait for Michael Pena's characters to meet in your story, the wombat and the grubber.

Note: In your story, Part 2, make sure Stormbreaker appears with a new handle, unless you wanna spare, *cough*tree friend*cough*

Hoo boy will Starlight's eyes pop out upon entering the Quantum Realm with her friends, since time travel may be possible there, wait, she's allies with Ultron before *facepalm*.

I waited through the entire credits for the post credits scene, and when I saw it was just an empty apartment with the emergency broadcast system and a giant ant playing the drums, four words come out of my mouth.

"Are you kidding me?"

Overall, great movie.

I enjoyed this movie. After Infinity War, having some levity before Avengers 4 was definitely a good move on Marvel’s part. It was fun from beginning to end.

Highlight goes to Scott and Cassie for me. Their interactions were some of the most wholesome scenes I’ve seen in a movie in a long time. Although, Hank and Hope’s long-awaited reunion with Janet was also touching. After IW, a happy ending was what we needed I feel.

And then Infinity War swoops in and yanks all that levity and wholesomeness away, reminding us that this is still the MCU’s darkest hour, especially now that Scott is trapped for what’s rumored to be five years. So now that he’s the only one left with knowledge of the Quantum Realm, Ant-Man may just be the key to setting right what went wrong.

Currently working on the next chapter of Infinity Era (an Ant-Man and the Wasp chapter). Will only include minor spoilers, Luis and his gang of Wombats

Yes! Hopefully they get to meet the ponies at some point. I’d love to see Luis recap what they missed in his usual style.

What really got me was Luiz's recap, it would be a crime against comedy not to include that in Infinity Era.

Maye some people will find the post credits scene not worth it, But I liked the ominous atmosphere it had with the T.V. Alert system playing.

Luis is really funny and likable, one of my favorite Supporting cast members in all of marvel, And his stories are all hilarious! :rainbowlaugh:

The other two (the Russian/eastern European guy and black guy)are entertaining and had their moment in the first Antman movie (and I have a weakness for russian accents), but I worry they arent as memorable as other supporting cast members. But Im glad I got to see them again in this movie

4898741 Haven't yet. I'll get to it.

4898744 It's coming soon. :moustache:

4898840 Yeah, everyone in the theater wasn't too keen with that. :fluttershyouch:

4898865 You're gonna love the next chapter... even though it's ponyless. :ajsleepy:

4899148 If anything, I would have loved to see further events after Thanos' snap. Maybe Cassie disappears, adding even more weight to the situation. Would've been sad, but hey, better than an ant playing the drums.

4899217 Like Jar Jar Binks, Ant-Man is the key to all of this.

I will admit the mid credits scene took my breath away. I was expecting the scene to coincide with Infinity War, but I wasn't expecting Hope, Hank, and Janet to disintegrate!

Have you heard any of the reaction videos on Youtube? Just listening to the scene gives me goosebumps!

Didn't you hear? Cassie will be in Avengers 4, only with a teenage actor.

Mesa be the key to salvation.

Oh, Canada, Janet just got out, just to be hakaied by that pale-faced, bald, ridge-jawed motherfucker, on that day!! I'll send him an unfriend request.

Looks like it's the Quantum Realm for the ponies and the Avengers along with good ol' Scotty if they wanna bring back those they lost.
