My Thought's on Horse Play (s8e7) · 4:09pm Apr 28th, 2018
This episode was a blast, not even kidding. Check below for my thoughts!
So, this episode was nothing game-changing. I'll say that up front. It was funny, cute and pretty darn endearing, however. And did I mention it was funny?
The basic idea was that Twilight is throwing a play for Celestia, she finds out Celestia loves plays and then offers her a part as the lead role. For the sake of spoilers and avoiding too many of them, let's just say things don't go according to plan... at all. Anyhow, long story short, Twilight learns a lesson about honesty, Celestia realizes an important truth and Trixie apparently sells fireworks on the black market.
The characters in this episode were all pretty strong. Twilight had some great moments, Celestia definitely had some great moments but man... Spike was the hero. Not the one we deserved in this episode, but the one this episode needed. When everyone else was beating around the bush, he told it like it is. This won't mean much to anybody who hasn't seen it yet, but his sarcastic line "That's the best acting I've seen all day," was freaking genius and had me in stitches.
As far as the lesson this story teaches, it's nothing new. Nothing hugh or with super deep meaning, just a casual lesson on being real with people. Still valuable, though.
And oh yeah, just on a side-note, this episode kind of assisted in confirming my headcanon that Celestia was just a normal pony at one point who was discovered to have a special talent and then became a princess later on. just, you know, bonus points.
Final Grade: 9/10
Keep rockin'!

You took the words right out of my mouth
I give it a 9/10 also.
Yeah, this pretty much sums up my thoughts on the episode exactly. Lore, humor, cuteness, feels, it actually sums up the series as whole rather nicely.
Still waiting for that Celestia back-story episode.

They've given us bits and pieces over time. That may be the best we get.

Same. I've always wanted an episode that shows what Spike will look like in 5 years or so. Not gonna happen, though.
I always enjoy Spike's snark, it's one of my favorite parts of his character.
Trixie selling fire works on the black market isn't really that surprising considering who she is. I pictured her more as an auctioneer though for some reason!
