Concerning Widget · 11:39pm Oct 25th, 2012
I wanted to ask you all for advice on the ending of my story, "Widget". Once Widget's mom showed up, her overprotective, analytic nature, and slight tendency towards arrogant behavior (she IS a dragon), has lead the story down a more serious path. I'm not sure whether to let the story take its course as the mother tries to get her daughter to stop talking to ponies, or if I should keep smacking it into shape until it goes back to the same lighthearted feel as the earlier chapters. What do you think? Any and all input is welcome.
I (ashamedly) still haven't read it, but my advice is to let the Story tell you what it needs. You should never curtail the spirit of the Story. It knows what it needs, y'know?

Sorry for the spoiler.
Thanks for the advice.

No one to blame but myself, hahah. I'm a terrible person sometimes, sorry, lady. But good luck!
I have not read it either. However, i completely agree that the story tells you how it wants to end. every story a writer creates will always have that flow to it that really only the writer can see. so if you are having problems getting a good ending actually what you can try is re read your story and a lot of times you can figure out an ending just by putting the pieces that you set up, together. Hope that helps.

My problem is I want a light-hearted fic, while my OC's seem determined to make it heavy.
448500 Hm, Well lets see. a light hearted setting with a OC with a heavy setting. you tend to need a scene that upsets the flow to were the OC falls into place were you want him/her. Also, good but taxing way is to revise some of the story that helps slowly morph them into what your overall design was in the beginning.

The characters write themselves... Widget's mom is kind of controlling. She'd create conflict in a story without a whole heck of a lot of conflict up til now.
448542 Hmm, Well you can use that to your advantage then. Like make it were they all learn an important lesson and then that can completly morph the flow to precisely what you want.

Sure I have a warm fuzzy ending in mind... but the stuff in the middle? Conflict everywhere.
448565 yeah i know what you mean there. lol a Lot of times when i try to figure out how to reach that ending is throw myself into the main characters shoes and say. what would i do. like, would i instead of doing it this way, would i do it another way. that sometimes helps.
448463 I second this advice, if you try to force a story, it will never turn out as well as one that you let proceed in it's natural inclination.
I recommend side stories to get you light hearted inclinations into the story without trying to bash the characters into a something they are not.

Maybe I can add a bonus chapter for Nightmare Night.
