So, you remember reading Letters from a Senior to a Junior Changeling? You know, that paragon of storytelling which laid bare the deep and secret truths of Friendship, Love, and All Sorts Of Other Important Things?

Well, a few hours ago I was sent this: The Wiggleworm Reports, a parody of my story. And you know what? It's really, really funny.

Anyway, the author wishes to remain anonymous (I even ported it over to a google doc of my own, so he's completely untraceable! Bwa-ha-ha!), but if you say nice things about Wiggleworm et al in the comments, I'll link him here so that he can bask in the love.

Now seriously, go read it. If you read my story and loved it, this is brilliant. And if you read my story and hated it, this is basically making fun of all my story's foibles. Everyone wins!

Now, back to feeling giddy over the fact that someone found my story noteworthy enough to parody.

I can imagine you giggling yourself stupid at the puns. It wrenched several full-on belly laughs from my cold, uncaring carcass, yet the ending fell a little flat for me. It was still funny, to be sure, but it only left me with the feeling of missing something rather than a final act of subterfuge on the part of the author. I kinda hope someone can steer me in the right direction with this, but I suspect it suffers from the same problem as Letters did for me: I cannot draw logical conclusions or comparisons from an unexplained concept that is itself illogical.

Still, top marks overall. A really good display of how parody ought to work. Concise, evocative, and constantly humourous, this was a wonderful thing to wake up to this morning! Thanks Chris, and Captain Anonymous-Pants.

It's also good timing. I was starting to get really disillusioned last night, after reading yet another recommended fic off EqD and finding flat and terminally uninspired. Seriously, I'm starting to wonder if I'm just unwittingly carrying a grudge at this point—not that I'd blame myself, in fairness—but I don't want to be that guy. This, however, reminds me that sometimes it's just because I crave stories that are a cut above your average run-of-the-mill fanfiction, and this was definitely it.

That was, in a word, brilliant. It really was. If I were so inclined, this sentence would have been replaced with a row of Rainbow Dash's laughing faces. I laughed, and that ending really was quite the twist. So, anonymous author, good on you!
