Fimfiction Advance / Nosey Hound The BLUE Update! · 8:38pm Dec 22nd, 2017

I hate to make more than one blog per day, but I was going to have to make this one eventually. Both Fimfiction Advance, and Nosey Hound should now work (better) with knighty's recent blues Christmas Update.

But first, an important announcement for firefox users! (skip down if you're on chrome):

Greasemonkey is no longer supported

People who have been following the development of firefox will remember how Greasemonkey broke during the beta stages of their new Firefox Quantum. I assumed that was it, and it wouldn't be coming back. Then the firefox update landed (I'd since switched to using Violentmonkey for the beta) and, lo-and-behold, Greasemonkey was updated as well.

I'd planned to have everyone else moving to Violentmonkey as well, but then I figured it was okay since greasemonkey seemed to be working again.

... I was wrong.

I've had a few reports of people getting problems running Fimfiction Advanced and other scripts, and in almost every instance the cause (and fix) tranced back to them using Greasemonkey. I asked them to remove it and install Violentmonkey instead, and the problems went away.

(For those curious - It turns out Greasemonkey will aways run scripts in a sandbox, even if they're wouln't have otherwise previously. That just results in all kinds of things breaking in FImfiction Advanced.)

So now I'm telling everyone: if you're using Greasemonkey, get rid of it. The install pages for my scripts have each been updated with new instructions and a link to the addon's download page.

Violentmonkey itself shouldn't be anything to be concerned about (it's essentially the same as Tampermonkey on Chrome). I also would not recommend people use Tampermonkey on Firefox, as that apparently ships with some google syndication that gathers info on its users.

With that done, below are the details on what got fixed in the two scripts. (thanks to everyone who reported these bugs, I'd probably not have found them otherwise.)

FimFiction Advanced 4.2.2

Lots of bug fixes.

The banner slideshow should function again, and I fixed some issues with the dialogue for inserting icons so it should, um, actually insert icons. Finally images should no longer be removed from posts when "Always display posted Images" is enabled.

There was also an incompatibility with Vivaldi browser. I don't really have that to test in, but I moved some things around so hopefully it should be less of an issue.

Changelog:
- Fixed the banner slideshow
- Fixed icon selection not actually inserting the icon
- Fixed blog placeholders showing code variables
- Fixed toolbar additions sometimes being called too early
- Possible fix for event listeners in Vivaldi
- Moved some of the Sweetie Scepter's assets out of the script itself
- Fixed banners looking weird with the bluefiction update

Nosey Hound 2.2.9

Most of the changes to this one are internal, but there were a few odd bugs that I caught. For one 'forgetting' a user should work again. The sniff link will also appear where it's supposed to be, since Knighty changed the page in that area a bit.

And this time it's animated (woah). They're waving at the download links, and the comment section below.

so much blue

What about Tampermonkey on Google Chrome?
EDIT: I don't see where Nosey Hound usually is.

Thanks, man. You're a godsend, you know that?

Chrome version should be fine (I think). It's only the firefox one that's reported to have it due to their devs.

EDIT: I don't see where Nosey Hound usually is.

Hm... any error messages?

Hm... Does a sniff option still appear in the user banner, and if not, what browser and extensions are you using?

Hm....

>Kaspersky
I will not judge.

Try reinstalling Nosey Hound fresh from the link. I'll try testing it on chrome a little later.

Kaspersky has kept me safe from malicious shit Ublock Origins didn't catch. Also reinstalling didn't seem to work.

4758481
Hm... I checked in Chrome and everything seems fine. I can also see the sniff link when I look at your profile.

Are you using any other scripts?

Oh, *derp*

Try updating again. I messed up the updates and the site was still serving the pre-blue version.

It works now. Thanks!

Vivaldi user here. It bloody works now. Great job!

Oh :yay:!

I definitely won't change anything about that then. :derpyderp2:
