Seeking coding assistance: can anyone make my Ko-fi button appear? · 9:12pm Dec 18th, 2017
As suggested by Pearl, I've set up a Ko-fi page for those who may not want the commitment of a Patreon pledge, but are comfortable with using something closer to a tip jar. And if you want to look at my laughable effort in constructing said page, you can find it here. I've notified the person whose PayPal account I transfer Patreon through about the new site, I've placed a message, I've set an initial goal to laugh at --
-- and I've already run into my first problem.
I can't get the button to work.
The site provides HTML codes which will link to my personal Ko-fi page. There are three options:

And none of these function on FIMFic, at least as currently constructed. I've tried swapping <> for brackets with no success. I had to do a direct HTML link above.
So if anyone knows how to make this function, I'd appreciate advice. Because if I keep going on my own with this...

Yeah, HTML to BBCode is not a straight one-to-one. Using "url=" and then the link URL as a bracket should work. The image source (the bit in the second option that comes after "src=" and ends in ".png") can be put in img tags, which can then be put in the aforementioned url tags

I tried and failed - I came to basically the same conclusion you did, Estee, and a couple of other websites showed the exact same solution. So I'll have to defer to Oliver's comment about this not currently being possible.
I've messaged Xaqueseg to see if there's anything else that could be done. I'm sorry I couldn't help.

1. If you could, there’s a lot of clever things that could be done, but unfortunately, the list includes hijacking accounts.
You can’t load a javascript file on Fimfiction, period, so the first option will never work.1

Remove the code tags, and it should work on your user page. Or just go with 4752429's method, which will work anywhere up to and including next to the Patreon link in your user description.
Sorry i couldn't have been more helpful. Doing this on a phone makes it tricky to test things.

Well, at least it's not reliant on Flash.
I managed to add it to the Patreon box on my userpage using the stated code (thankee), and -- I've already decided I hate the image. Because looking at the words 'Buy Me A' makes me feel sick. I'll give it until the end of the week to see what happens -- but after that, I may just keep it as a straight text link, and that's how it'll have to be in the long story descriptions no matter what I do.
Which means -- *sigh* -- I have to update every long description to get the new text link in.
Bleargh.
(Zero activity on that Ko-fi page so far, but I already have a Patreon and I'm not exactly expecting an insta-flood in the first few hours.)

I don’t think anyone will complain if you make a different image.
You will have to upload it somewhere, but that’s not normally a problem, especially since the redesign this year, because now Fimfiction downloads a copy of every image you use, and shows the readers that copy instead. Which means that the original only gets accessed occasionally, preventing complaints from image hosters.

Well, I’m sure you can get someone to draw a pony drinking coffee, or something, for you. If you do, I suppose I could make you a nice enough icon out of it with whatever text you please.

Ferret asked me if there was anything I can do to make this work. I see you kinda just want a new button. If you wanna pm me or email me (EIP) and tell me what you want it to look like, I've got a copy of illustrator and a working knowledge of decorating text to make it look semi passable.
