D&D: why the new OGL is really bad

There's some controversy right now about the new OGL (Open Gaming License) published by Wizards of the Coast, the company behind Dungeons & Dragons.

I don't talk about D&D here a lot, since I know it's not relevant to Fimfiction, but I think it's worth getting this news out. Also they're owned by Hasbro, the same company that own MLP, so it's worth knowing what they're up to.

Don't be Fluttershy · 10:15pm Oct 28th, 2017

This is a public service announcement on the subject of bees.

In the first part of today's episode, Fluttershy moves the flash bees' hive a distance of what looked like 10 metres.

Do not do this. You will kill the hive.

:fluttercry:

Bees' navigation is very precise, but not very flexible. They always return to where they remember the hive being. If you move a beehive a very short distance - up to 3 feet / 1 metre - they can find the hive and will adjust. Any more that that though, and they'll get lost.

You can also move a beehive a much longer distance - at least 3 miles / 5 kilometres - because that's far enough that their new foraging area won't overlap with the old one. When moving a beehive a long distance, always do it after dark and block up the entrance. Open it as soon as the hive is set up in the new location.

If you need to move it more than 3 feet, then what you have to do is move it at least 3 miles away, wait a week, then move them back.

And before anybody asks, I've never kept bees in my life, but I ended up researching the subject for a story I'm writing. So don't necessarily trust me - you should do your own research.

1) Move the hive 3 miles away.
2) Move it back, but 10 meters from original place.
3) Profit!))

As long as you wait a week between steps 1 and 2, yes.

Of course, these are electric bees. Perhaps they navigate by magnetism.
