How to Make Fimfiction Look Fucking Perfect · 2:29am Oct 27th, 2017

You want an actually good black theme for fimfiction + an amazing banner that you can set yourself WITH support for GIFs???

You have to have tampermonkey installed. It's an extension that allows you to change the appearance of certain sites. I've used it for years!

Detailed info: https://github.com/Inrixia/inrixia.github.io

Click both of those links; they'll install the script for you.
https://github.com/Inrixia/Inrixia.github.io/raw/master/FimBanner.user.js
https://github.com/Inrixia/Inrixia.github.io/raw/master/FimDash.user.js

For the banner, if you go into the code (there's really not much), find the link to the picture that came stock and replace it with whatever you want!

Inrix was the guy who made these, and they look fucking fantastic, right?

That looks tacky as heck but that’s just me you like what you like

2000th blog, congratulations!

That looks sooooo cool!!!!!

I'll just point out though, if you do all of this, and something doesn't work that was working before, don't ask for back-end assistance. Or if you do, clarify that you're using extensions.

^ Come complain to me instead lol :)

If something doesn't work right, the first thing you should do for troubleshooting is to disable all add ons.

You install these, D?

4709053 Nope. Nothing against them, I just can't be bothered.

Looks cool but a bit OTT for my tastes.

HOLY FUCK THAT IS AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL THAT MAKES THIS SITE FUCKING PERFECT

I already see that mini Dash whenever I enter the mobile website, now they have it for Twilight as well?

It's another userscript. It's called Interactive ponies. Sollace made it.

Of course, when Knighty wakes up and decides to change the site into some shit design this will all be moot and void ofcourse.

It does look absolutely beautiful.

Fimfic Advanced is good enough for me.

Holy moly a banner????

It's been so long since I've seen a banner on this website...
Can anyone tell me why the banner was removed in the first place?

Let me know if there's a script that brings back images for character tags.

Nice! And 2000 blogs, good job!

Ohh thank you I'll have to try this. I have not enjoyed the look of the site sense the update.

Unfortunately Tampermonkey overrides FreeStyler and Stylish so this breaks my other scripts but if I find TamperMonkey versions I'll be most happy with this. I need a way to bring back the pony-themed reading colors next.

4709120
Ah okay, thanks for clarifying.

4709050
*Tosses massive kudos yarns for you to play with.

4709248
For the dark theme it's prettymuch just a css file. So if tamper monkey isn't working I'd be happy to try get it working on something else if you wanted.

4709269
Thanks :)

4709163
I'm feeling creative if you can link me to some images and what you want changed I'd totally do it.

4709121
The only thing that might break in the future is the banner which is pretty easy to update. The other stuff is mostly all colors so overall I'm hoping this won't be too hard to maintain even through big updates :)

omg
this is perfect :D

To clarify what I mean; Fimfiction used to have little portraits of characters faces for indicating when they are in a story like so-

camo.derpicdn.net/91cd56a7c2bf712a9b96eab75b3e656efeed0fa7?url=http%3A%2F%2Fi.imgur.com%2FV6Gvo.png

whereas now it just lists their names. I don't mind their names being written out, but I miss the quick visual check of the old method so I'd like those portraits back. They would directly replace the written names, with the ability to hover over them to read the name.

I think all of the images can still be found when filtering stories. Here's some
static.fimfiction.net/images/characters/bon_bon.png static.fimfiction.net/images/characters/spa_ponies.png static.fimfiction.net/images/characters/main_6.png .
I can try to get 'em all if you're interested, but if not that's cool too.

Gimme a sec and Ill do a quick test to see how plausible it would be. If I can get it to work nicely then Ill totally get you to try find the others :).

I'm working on a massive update for the dark theme right now (Basically an entire rewrite to cut its css down from 21k+ lines to like 1k plus a whole heap of bugfixes and updates). So I probably wont get to work on it till tomorrow anyway :) But Ill test it right now.

4710140
Ok so basically something like this?

What do you think looks better, spaced or non spaced:
gyazo.com/7ee920c08fd9bdd5b2c802df85316846.png

gyazo.com/0386b8806630f8706ee67ba1e83b8af3.png

4710143
Not spaced looks better imo, but I think I misspoke.

While I don't mind the written out names as tags, this thing would still be a direct replacement for them rather than an additional thing added on at the bottom. The old example I posted and my language was not clear, I'm sorry.

The main purpose of this edit would be to make it easier to scan stories regardless of the way the story is embedded, such as List View / Card view, or in the "Also Liked / Similar / Author" tab.

If you'd like I could Photoshop a mock-up comparison of what I mean later, though you won't get a quick reply since I gotta go now.

Quick Edit: Not that I would mind it being the thing at the bottom, as long as it shows up in those other views. I definitely don't mean to dump on the neat thing you did.

4710152
That would actually make things wayy easier for me too. How does this look?

Without the colours changed:

With them changed:

Sorry for taking so long. Was a bit longer to cleanup everything so it looked nice.

### Edit without any border ###

4710163
You're plenty fast, friend!

I think with borders and colors unchanged might be the best.

4710168
Ok. just find me the images for all the different tags and Ill write a script to do it tomorrow. Just cleaning up that massive update before pushing it out and going to bed, its 3am now lol :)

4710169
Okie dokie, I'll get right on that!- In 8 or so hours, I gotta sleep now. :raritywink:

Maybe closer to 12. :unsuresweetie:

Edit: I sent it in a pm to keep from cluttering this comment section up further.

Tampermonkey is client side javascript. It open up vulnerabilities to the clients if you browse sketchy websites with it on. I would advise stylish with the userbanner css to be honest over tampermonkey. However, if you wanted to inject interactive script things, you cannot do that with css and Stylish.

I also advise this over tampermonkey because this is a much faster way to modify the theme and more safely, and as an alternative.

Just as an alternative extension instead of slower javascript, have this

Because of loading times, bandwidth, and the ability for fimfiction to implement title cards at the top of user pages instead of a banner; e.g it's faster
(I'm also mad that BBcode forces unilateral formatting, so there's no whitespace allowed at the beginning of paragraphs anymore)

4711696
Damn, thanks dude. You know where I can find the old drawings?

4711697
No problem. It's kind of annoying, but it's split over several posts and was last answered somewhere at the end of 2015 or 2016 officially. o7

4712092
Thanks so much! These bring back such good memories...

4711695
I put it on stylish but it will be updated slower there as I cannot easily tell it to look at my github for updates.

Id totally recommend people use stylish though as for the Theme it loads much better, and if you have the banner then use it alongside tamper-monkey I might even look into porting the banner over.

4712107
I'm still not quite sure what the tampermonkey is supposed to do beside injecting the css as html tags.
I was thinking about it and a quick search sys you could just use this little snippet of code in a css file if you wanted to support stylish

@import url('/css/styles.css');/*First Stylesheet*/
@import url('/css/styles.css');/*Second Stylesheet*/
/*ect*/

4713573
Yea but there are issues with loading and stuff. Stylish just works better for css and is more secure. And tamper monkey has more functionality.

That would be so awesome...I love everything man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This rocks. Thank you! So much less bland, now.
