On Krysta and her transformation · 1:09am Oct 2nd, 2017

This is what happens when I am on break from writing for a month. (Halloween, I am busy doing other things) I start to write blogs.

Oh well, I suppose with the end so close, as in about five to six chapters away, I need to look back and commentate on certain ideas.

Not the least of wich being a character that has irked me for some time. A character I see as useless to the plot, worthless to the story, and so undefined that I kind of hate the character.

Of course I am talking about-

Oh, believe me. Rhymey's time is coming, I just want to get the young queen of Faries out of the way first.

Krysta...annoys me greatly throughout the show. Not as much as Rhymey or GR, or even Kudos, but she is very very annoying. It isn't even just the fact that she bascially told Twilight to shut up, or that she is just a backgroudn character. She just annoys me so much!

I think I broke it down to three base reasons why. The first of wich is that, she is treated worse than Spike ever was. Say what you will about Spike, but at least he perfoms the typical magical girl tagalong boy arcehtype who is mainly support. (And being on the same level as Tux boy aint too bad.) He is still treated better and has a bigger role to play than the girl whose basic function is to make portals. Let's compare here: Spike by the end of season four has-

Saved the empire, twice
Saved Rarity,
Helped Twilight with her mental breakdown
Helped with Sunset
Took care of the pets

Krysta has-

Made portals

She doesn't really have that big of a role or a purpose compared to Spike. She even bearly shows up in season 2 and I bet, were it not for her connection with Lighitng, she would have vanished into the either alongside so many other characters. After her arc is done, she basically sticks around and performs DBZ-esque commentary on the battles.

Reason 2 is, well, her whole purpose isn't just to be the female annalouge to Spike, but to give Lighting something that a certain famous hero has. Can you figure it out? Three golden objects, a legendary hero? Yeah, Krysta is only there to be a Navi analouge and that is it. Her whole purpose in life is to give Lighting a Navi to talk to, bcause heaven forbid he has friends to team up with.

Reason three, has to do with her body type. She is human, very VERY human. Now, for me, this is a little bit problemmatic because it kind of messes with the world as both I have established and the writer has established. When making a world, you need to have consitency across the board. Wich means that you either a) Have a world with some animal traits or B) Only Anthros. In the pony world, you have either quadropeds or anthros, while humans are just on the other side of a portal. What this tells me that this is less of a Star Trek kind of universe where you have Catains or Wing Commander Kilarthi or even a Sonic (Wich explained humans as the fact that Mobious was several 1000 years into our future and I will not say anymore on that little plot point. I forget that as much as I forget a certain lap-say by ally-say.) and closer in tone with Star Fox or Bucky o'Hare where the only humans are on another plane of existance. Human Krysta, and indeed the elves, kind of throw this out of wack as this raises one too many questions about why evolution only picked Ponies to be sentiant and nowhere else.

By being so pointless, so annoying, and quiet frankly a useless character, I was ready to throw her out. Even in my Rough Draft all I didn't even mention her, I didn't even talk about her. I just left her in the trash and walked along the way. When I made plans for the NEcromancer to go and kill her right then and there. (If this were a film, this would be the part where I would show possible designs for zombie Krysta.)

However, since the plans had begun, I had been reading Starfleet Nemesis and began to see a new side to Krysta. To see that maybe she deserved to live after all. So thus, I took the idea of killing her and change it. After all, if one of the main themes of this story is that there are no bad ideas and that the bad characters of Starfleet just need time to shine in order to become good, then it would make sense to have someone act like an outside observer. Someone to become a representation of those fans who say, "Wait, the character isn't that bad. Really, you just need to read__________ or watch ________ to see his good points. And that is what she became.

Then, I also realized another problem recently...the zombie fairies. I noticed that by the end of the story, they are left unresolved, and KRysta just dissappeared. Now, I like to think of myself as Oda rather than Toryama, I remember everyone. So, I thought about what to do with both. That's when the answer hit me, and how to kill three birds with one stone. I would make KRysta the answer to all of my problems. But, what to do and how to cure it.

Well, I am a fan of two series with fairies...

Winx Club (Seasons 1-3. though world of Winx is good)

So, why not use elements from that and fix the other problem with her character. Soo, originally I had plans for her to grow and take care of the zombies back in Neighpon, that didn't happened. But, as I was beginning to work out the idea, I began to think about the problems with a human Krysta...and then I realized something. Barring their use in the elements of harmony and saivor of worlds, Flutterponies are largely forgotten by the fanbase. They are usually replaced with Breezies, even Pony POV does this. I don't know why, they are badass!

They killed the Smooze, and beat Erabus! They're victories kind of make the Breezies look like the little sibs. But, you try looking up good Flutterpony fanart in G4 style and you get squat, and fanfics are a no go. So, why not fix the problems I have with the universe, reintroduce one of my favorite side pony races from G1, and fix her. So, I decided to make the big change.

So, here we are. Krysta is now alive and well. Lighitng and the trio are on a mission to save their friends, Grand Ruler is ready for Board Wipe, Conquest is readying for the final curtain of war to begin, and the knights of harmony are coming to the end of a long fought war.
