Ow, my foot! · 6:39pm Sep 17th, 2017
My diabetes doesn't give me that much trouble these days, at least compared to the symptoms that lead me to discover it in the first place. The most notable thing is the tendency for my limbs to fall asleep, especially my feet while I'm sitting by my computer, which is practically all the time. I often don't notice it right away, but when standing up I sometimes can't feel one of my feet at all. Usually this goes away in a few seconds as I move it around.
Last night, however, I got up to got to the bathroom and thought I was okay, only to completely lose my balance. I ended up putting my weight down on the outer side of my right foot before getting a hold of something to steady myself, and I'm pretty sure I heard a loud cracking sound. My immediate thought was: "Well, shit. Guess I broke something."
It hurt a lot, but it seemed like I could still use the foot so I limped over the the bathroom. It was on the way back I noticed that I was apparently close to fainting. I felt dizzy and lightheaded, I was breathing heavier than I should have, sweated slightly despite not feeling especially warm, and my vision kept momentarily blacking out. My mother had heard me groaning and came down the stairs to check on me after I sat down for fear of falling over and injuring myself further. She commented that I looked very pale. The whole thing worried me more than the foot.
After drinking some water and laying down, I started to feel better. (Though the foot was starting to feel worse.) Going by the symptoms, my guess is that the sudden shock caused my blood pressure to fall rapidly. With some painkillers and a friendly cat for comfort, I managed to fall asleep.
Today, the side of my foot is somewhat swollen and still hurts a bit, but I as far as I can tell it's just a minor sprain. I can still move the foot and walk on it with some discomfort, and touching the swell itself doesn't even hurt, so I don't think it's much to worry about. The loud cracking sound, while kinda scary, may just have been the joint in my foot popping. So for now, I'll just take it easy and wait for it to heal on it's own.
At least I didn't break my dominant hand again.
Sending positive healing vibes!
