Thoughts on "Triple Threat" · 6:22pm Aug 28th, 2017
Well, since I'm bored and this thingamabubby is late, let's have this thing... and hopefully I'll get to Campfire Tales soon.
~Welp, Twilight rubbing off on Spike was bound to happen sooner or later.
~And suddenly, Thorax! It's so weird, I'm so used to his magical beetle-deerness that I keep forgetting he was once dark-colored swiss cheese. Also, I'm amused that he was a little too into the fire. Careful, buddy, Bug Types don't do well against fire.
~Ah, the grand battle of Red vs. Blue. Happens a lot for some reason. Politics, college sports, awkward Olympic-esque events... you name it! I don't blame Spike for getting worried, these kind of conflicts get nasty really fast.
~Ember Alert! Ember Alert! Ember Alert!
~I'd jump when greeted with a fanfare too. Thankfully I'm not as scary as Ember when startled.
~I really should have seen Ember munching on the dinnerware and the castle walls coming. Watching her eat makes me want some candy.
~This awkwardness with the chairs reminded me of the time I let loose nonsense What If questions on a forum about sentient chairs in Equestria plotting to overthrow Celestia's throne. Somebody corrected me with "the throne's Celestia" and it took me a minute to get it.
~Why is the way Spike's spines are blinking so mesmerizing? Looks familiar but I can't put my finger on it...
~Spike, the friendship problem is obviously the Thorax-Ember issue... and you're gonna ignore it.
~Stupid theory time! Some of the renegade changelings are gangs in Applewood that often pose as celebrities to feed off fangirl love. Unfortunately, that's not very healthy, so they sometimes crash weddings. Beware, they often act like annoying stereotypes.
~Ember's little fiery display kind of reminds me of Avatar, and how Fire Lord Ozai was showing off his comet-boosted bending to his opponent with his whole "I HAVE ALL THE POWER IN THE WORLD!" schtick. Except this is a display of "LET'S BE FRIENDS!" Goes just about as well as you expect, but at least the Dragon Lord isn't razing Equestria with comet-boosted firepower.
~Imagine if the "covering your walls in your guest's favorite food" thing was a thing; asking each other what our favorite food is would probably be code for "you want to come over to my place sometime?" And now I want some cheese.
~Spike is now a matchmaker. Now make out, you bench-sharers, you.
~Eh, the "Ember can't tell Twilight and Starlight apart" joke falls flat for me. Especially since Twilight has wings and some people think Starlight's pink.
~Uh, Thorax, do you really think a bear is a match for a friggin' dragon? Even a small one like Ember can still breathe fire.
~Well, duh, of course they're upset. At least Thorax and Ember's little bonding scene at the pond is pretty cute, and how each other's strengths can help teach the other how to overcome their weaknesses is great. In fact, I'm a little tempted to ship them.
~Thorax's use of the word "pack" bothers me. You're not wolves!
~And resolution, resolution, Ember and Thorax confront Spike and then forgive him, Spike learns a lesson, and we have a group hug that Ember's not too big on. Oh, and Spike's spines do the thing again and we have the party! Without Pinkie. Is she on vacation?
~Gesundheit, Ember.
Well, this episode was kind of a mixed bag. On the one hand, I certainly enjoyed the many funny moments that this episode had to offer, Thorax is adorable as always, I actually liked Ember here (yeah, what a shock, I didn't like Ember before; she was just a Tsundere Tomboy Princess without anything else that was all that interesting about her personality-wise), and their moment at the pond together was sweet. On the other hand, the whole "keeping them away from each other without them knowing" plot tends to make me cringe, and Spike's moments were not all that fun to watch.
At least I can say it's better than other episodes of its kind. Now, I better get to Campfire Tales.
Good to know I'm not the only one bothered by the "pack" term. Someone's suggested that the changelings were trying to rebrand themselves as something less insectile, but they accidentally went with the wrong mammal.
4650874 Yeah, they accidentally copied wolves instead of ponies. Just be thankful they didn't copy crows.
I actually REALLY ship Thorax and Ember. Hard.
