All Art Is Quite Useless

When I'm not writing stories, I'm writing essays. My keyboard sees fairly frequent use. University student, high functioning Rainbow Dash enthusiast, and satirical activist.

Life without internet is no fun · 12:16am Aug 27th, 2017

So, anyone who read my recent blog post will know that I recently moved home, which is why I’ve not been available online. Oh, what fun that has been.

First off, the move was hell. I had half an hours sleep the night before, and spent roughly 18 hours straight packing and cleaning because there was just so bloody much to do. When all was said and done, I travelled over to the new place, crawled onto my sofa and died. Sleeping pattern has been pretty ruined since.

So, you know how my providers were meant to set up internet in my new house after I arrived? They apparently had a technical glitch (which I’m pretty sure is fob off talk for ‘they fucked up’) which caused them to cancel the order. Mum then sorted out the order so they had to take it out once more, since then they’ve cancelled it twice more and moved the installation date around three times. Now, this unnamed ISP has driven me and the whole family pretty damn crazy, and we’re all running out of mobile data to boot.

Now, I don’t have a contract sim card. I’m ‘pay as you go’ right now, and as such, don’t have much data on my phone, thing is that I never use it. Now that I have no Wifi and actually have to rely on data, I see just how quickly it runs out. I have been using my single gig of internet very stringently, but I’ve somehow still burnt through 850mbs in the last week.

When I post this, I’ll have already written the entire thing out in a word document. I’ll be tethering my laptop to the tiny 100mb of data left on my phone and hoping I get to post this and my story without any issues.

I’m pretty broke right now, so I’m not exactly happy about needing to buy more data just to do basic things, but even if that’s the case, I’ve not got money to do so for the next few days, everything’s pretty tight right now and I’m focusing on paying for the absolute basics.

The silver lining of this blog is that despite the fact I’m unable to get online for more than a few seconds right now, and probably won’t be able to for at least a few days, I will be properly back online in a week and a half. Not only that, but I’ve been working on things since being offline.

Unfortunately, I’ve not been able to work on things I’ve required internet access to look at (such as my existing stories), which is a pain in the arse, so I’ve decided to be innovative, and work on a couple of original projects.

One is the story I plan to release now. (Internet permitting!) Now, this is my thirteenth story, and I’m not a big fan of the number thirteen, so I thought that rather than going for a sweeping epic, I’d write something fun and simple. Here’s hoping people enjoy it!

I’ve also got a series in mind that I may or may not write for release in early September. Without giving too much away, I’ll say now that the story would involve a fair amount of reader participation, and could be plenty of fun!

I’ve also started working on a longer story, something I don’t plan on releasing straight away, but that I’ve put a fair amount of thought into. It’s actually an idea I’m pretty fond of, one I had before even joining Fimfiction. Now, every idea I’ve turned into a story up until now has been conceptualised within 24 hours of writing, so creating something that I’ve actually put a fair amount of thought into should be great!

Oh yeah, I’ve had a little think about whether to write any form of continuation for Don’t Ever Let Me Go. I’m still undecided, but I’ve got a few ideas written out, so if I do go ahead and write a sequel, I’ll at least be prepared!

If you’re awaiting a message from me, waiting for me to write something, or whatever else, I’m sorry. Fact of the matter is, I simply haven’t the ability to get online right now, as crappy as that is.

This isn’t just a lazy break from writing, in case you were wondering, this is a break from everything, and by no means self-imposed. I’m still writing if and where I can, but in the meantime, I’ve spent the last week without access to videos, music, my playstation, social media, and whatever else, and the next couple of weeks are likely to be the same. It’s not ideal, but it’s what my situation necessitates until everything’s sorted out.

So yeah. It’s temporary, but in the meantime feel free to enjoy a little something I wrote!
