Sleepless in Ponyville 2.0
So first, cool to see this ep is a direct sequel to one of the best S3 episodes.. in Season 7. Okay. Basically just a series of three stories from the sisters to their siblings.
Applejack’s story is bland, Rockhoof is not interesting at all (he doesn’t even get to talk) and the story is a blatant deus ex machina when out of nowhere, for no reason, he turns from a scrawny wimp into friggin’ Thor and rapidly shovels out a trench for the lava to flow into. Why, how? I don’t know. And hey, the scrawny wimp bulks up into a hero, never seen that story before. Second story is by far the best, Sable is a very weak villain with plotdumps her pathetic motivations, but Mistmane is cool and the unique design for the unicorns, particularly their horns, is neat. Third story is fine, Flash Magnus the pegasus bravely takes on some dragons to save his comrades. Cue the chat I was watching the stream on raging because everyone presumed it was Vincent Tong (it wasn’t) and thus Flash Magnus sucks.
A lot of cool and unique new designs and animations, with each story being based on a different historical culture. These stories all tie into the Legends of Magic comics, which I don’t care about, I’ve long given up on the comics when they started being lame and stupid, like so.
Anyway, cute episode, nothing special but it was neat.
Earth Pony Magic = Strength. err... Super Strength.
Well, if you don't like the comics now, you're probably not going to be happy with the fact that they're tying into the Season 7 finale, apparently. Keep in mind, I haven't outright given up on the comics, but I still don't approve of this move. The comics were best when they were secondary canon and didn't have to worry about crossing paths with the show's continuity, both could overlap if necessary, but both worked better when they were doing their own things.
