Discord's New Business side story: How would I have written it? · 4:41pm Jun 26th, 2017
So as stated in the author's notes, it's very unlikely I will be the one to continue that story. Given "A Novel Match" was suppose to be a SHORT STORY and I can't even get the last part of THAT out.
There is more to it then just that though: Mainly that I never had an idea for where the story would go. I just wanted the 80's rom com movie set up.
I do know that if I had tried to continue it. It would have likely gone down one of three scenarios.
I know that before each scenario one constant would be Stage Light going to Ponyville and using Discord's business to become Sweetie's age again. I'm not sure if he would have met Sweetie before becoming young again or not. Possibly he'd have seen the CMC as their young selves and get filled in by Discord on what happened.
The basic idea is that he'd want to talk to Sweetie again. If I don't have them talk before he becomes her age again, it'd be so he can pretend to be someone new and get to know her. After all, it'd be a bit weird to go: Hey remember that one stallion you talked to at the club for maybe five minutes? Well I have a crush on you and think you might be my muse.
Eventually, I'd have him pay to be little again for maybe a week so he can spend time with Sweetie Belle. In which the three scenarios would diverse:
Scenario A: He becomes a colt, begins to talk to Sweetie. Sweetie finds out who he is and somehow manages to get permission to become an adult again and go on a real date with Stage Light, or just hanging out with him as an adult. Love slowly blossoming. In the end, Stage Light has to go back to his life, and Sweetie decides to remain a grown up mare to be with him.
Probably not the one that'd happen, as her staying a grown up mare doesn't really seem plausible.
Scenario B: He becomes a colt, begins to talk to Sweetie. They go on adventures/dates whatever as little kids. Love blooms, Sweetie is sad that Stage Light has to go back to the 'world of adults' and can't follow as she needs to grow up for real. In the end Stage Light decides to remain a colt her age and grow up with her.
This is basically how these kinda plots work when done for movies and such. You may have heard of the 2004 movie, 13 going on 30. There was actually a movie before it in 1988 called 14 going on 30, which was kinda the inspiration of this side fic. If you read the summery of that movie and this scenario, you'll see the connections, or at least see the basic plan.
Scenario C: And then we get to this one, that popped into my head because of what I usually write on here.
Most of it is the same. Stage Light sees Sweetie as a young filly. Decides he wants to use Discord's business to become young again to get to know her. The major difference here is Discord, being who he is, thinks that if Stage Light really wants to get close enough to Sweetie Belle to get to know her, it'd work better if Stage Light was a filly like her.
So instead of a young colt, he becomes a young filly and has to deal with that while still trying to befriend Sweetie. This of course could lead to other young colts trying to ask her out on dates, to his sister Azure enjoying having Stage Light as her younger sister.
Could also have a bit where they become adults again, leading to grown up mare Stage Light and how she handles that.
This one could end in a few ways too, as when the truth comes out, Stage Light could decide to become a colt/stallion again, still possibly getting with Sweetie Belle, or maybe as a filly she finds she enjoys the friendship with Sweetie and the other CMCs too much and is conflicted. Maybe even gaining a male suitor of her own that she begins to develop feelings for. I could see Sweetie and her growing up and starting a two mare show. Stage Light plays the guitar while Sweetie sings.
The issues here is there are possibilities of 'clop' that I'd likely have to avoid as Discord's New Business is rated TEEN.
I'm also not sure this scenario would fit in with the dynamic of the original fic either.
You can say which one you'd have liked to see in the comments if you like. Or if someone can actually continue this and wants to use one as a guideline, that's fine too.
Oh, and if you read those three and are glad I can't continue the fic, that's fine as well. XD
I like idea B the most, personally.
