Spike returns to the Golden Oaks Library in the evening. He sends off Twilight’s letter to Celestia before bed. Twilight looks over Sombra’s black crystal again, but it explodes when her magic interacts with it.
Twilight gets a response from Celestia about her possible immortality. The Sun Princess requests Twilight’s presence in Canterlot to discuss it, so the purple pony plans another trip for the following day. Fluttershy stays behind to tend to the animals, since she was already absent for some time.
Luna becomes frustrated at her sister’s lack of attention on her. Celestia decides to assign the four Soleil sisters as maids for Twilight. The Soleils themselves are obsessed with Twilight.
Twilight goes back to sleep when night comes in full. Fluttershy, Rainbow Dash, and Pinkie Pie also returned to sleep in the ring. In the morning, all feel refreshed and a special train car waits to take Twilight and her fellow travelers to Canterlot to see Princess Celestia.
Rarity decides to come along on the trip, while Applejack stays in Ponyville with Fluttershy. Chrysalis recreates Twilight’s royal horseshoes and Twilight suggests the changeling talk to Rarity about fashion since they share an ability.
On the train ride to Canterlot, Chrysalis speaks to Rarity about her creation magic while Twilight encourages Rainbow Dash to be who she wants to be. Pinkie Pie works on some mechanical contraptions that look like a horn and pair of wings.
On the way to the Castle, Rarity goes off to look at the fashion stores. Spike accompanies her. Meanwhile at the castle, Celestia and Luna bring Twilight’s group to a secluded tower to speak of immortality.
Centurion questions his fellow guards about their changed attitudes towards Twilight, but they deflect. Spike and Rarity finally return to join the group. Flash Sentry begins to relax around Midnight Strike.
The royal sisters reveal that alicorns are immortal by birth along with some dragons and other creatures – including draconequui. Magic dragons are immortal, including Spike. Celestia saved Spike’s egg by request of the unborn dragon’s dying mother, Greelenth.
Equestria was the dream of Celestia and Luna, though both sisters hadn’t been born there. They wanted to create a place of peace and safety. Cadance was the first alicorn after them and she was created using dark magic Celestia learned from Sombra’s records.
Celestia reveals that alicorn transformation is not the same as obtaining immortality. Sombra could use dark magic to make mortal alicorns, but the dark stallion had never cared about that. He only wanted immortality.
The Origins are revealed by Celestia – immortal beings with power over the greatest aspects of the universe: Life, Death, Harmony, etc. Twilight feels a trip to the Tree of Harmony might help them. Celestia bargained with the Vine of Life for Cadance’s immortality.
The royal sisters withhold their knowledge of Cadance’s plan from Twilight. Princess Cadance plans to take Shining Armor to the Vine to request immortality, so that their love would endure eternity. Cadance is unaware that the sisters know of her plans.
Rarity is informed by Twilight about her new hivemind and the changed relationships as a result of it. She then expresses some curiosity about connecting herself.
Chrysalis rigs up a sleep system for them at the castle. Luna confronts Chrysalis in the hivemind dreamspace via her dreamwalking ability.
Rainbow Dash has some hayburgers cooked for herself and Twilight while the alicorn talks about her relationship with Chrysalis. Rainbow explains she is not jealous and is flexible about their relationships. Twilight, however, suspects that Chrysalis is hiding things such as her past and the reason for Spike’s lack of a hivemind connection.
Chrysalis kicks everyone out of the hivemind sleep when she fails to overpower Luna and Twilight begins to enter – thus risking a connection between the princesses. Luna barges into their castle room, accusing Chrysalis of manipulating Spike.
Twilight talks to Celestia and Luna about her hivemind. Luna attempted entering Spike’s dream initially because she and Celestia had planned to help him further his dragon magic. Both royal sisters are aware of the feelings between Spike and Rarity and how that may be used to unlock the dragon’s magic. The sisters then request Twilight’s help with court paperwork to ease her into her future position when they leave – which they don’t reveal to her yet.
Celestia and Luna begin talking about the upcoming trip away from Equestria after Twilight leaves. Discord reveals himself in their room, having overheard everything on purpose. He expresses his enthusiasm for the journey, since he is going along.
The Tree of Harmony complains to the Vine of Life about the Vine’s creation, Discord. The Tree was nearly choked by Discord’s black vines, though he called them off and eliminated them himself.
Pinkie finishes creation of her mechanical wings and horn. Twilight gets a changeling crown from Chrysalis and considers functional changeling accessories. Rarity decides that change can be a good thing and desires to join the hivemind as well as develop her relationship with Spike.
As celebration for Rarity deciding to join, Twilight lets her pick a spot for the group to visit that evening. Rarity decides on the Hallowed Hanging Gardens: Equestria’s most prestigious and exclusive recreational spa.
Twilight commands Chrysalis to fully link herself and Spike next time.
Rarity considers her feelings for Spike as the group walks to the Hallowed Hanging Gardens. They enter the gardens and are led up a small mountain in the center to the spas. They split into three groups since the spas are each limited in size. Rarity goes with Spike while Twilight’s group includes Chrysalis and Pinkie. Rainbow Dash complains at first at not being with Twilight’s group but gives in.
Twilight’s guards keep alert and watch the paths even as they relax in the spa. Rarity asks Spike what he would be interested in doing with her, since she realizes they have only ever done things she had chosen.
Twilight gets Pinkie to promise not to do anything crazy with her new knowledge unless talking first to her. Both Chrysalis and Pinkie engage in fun.
The four Soleil sisters show up. They are the white banner mares that carried Twilight’s standard at her coronation. They are now assigned to Twilight Sparkle permanently as her maids by Celestia.
Celestia talks to Luna about her plans for Twilight to ascend in their absence. Both sisters decided long ago not to take the title of queen in honor of their parents. Celestia believes Equestria may become a better place under Twilight and it may, in turn, be time they moved on.
