Romance: Approved and A Timeframe · 9:17am Oct 5th, 2012
Okay, so after some reader-voting in this blog post, I've decided to go ahead with a romantic sub-plot in The Piano Man: Act II.
I understand that some readers have reservations about the idea - and some also outright protest it. Many of these appear to be worried about the subplot detracting from the story, or that it will ruin Keys' character, which is what prompted me to make this blog post.
Basically, I want to ask those who are concerned by my decision to - in a nutshell - have a little faith, and give me the benefit of the doubt. If you're worried about me doing some stupid generic romantic story that's basically just a token relationship in the background, then I have some good news for you: It's not going to be that. Seriously. Just... well, just wait, and I'm sure you'll find that what I'm planning is absolutely fine. It's not going to ruin Keys' character, and it's not going to detract from the story. It's going to be subtle, and non-prominent.
I suppose you'll just need to wait and read it to understand what I mean. I'm sure most of you will be satisfied with the product.
NOW: I suppose you're wondering why the next chapter's taking so long. Sorry about that. Well, in summary... there's been a death in my family. My Great Uncle passed away in a very sudden and unexpected turn of events, so I'm sure you can understand why I haven't released a chapter in so long. Now that the funeral service has been conducted, I'm regaining my motivation to write TPM. The next chapter will be out within the next two days.
- The Sentient Cloud.
My condolances.
403858 I didn't know him too well, which softens the blow considerably.
There's no need for sympathy. I only actually talked with him... well, I talked with him less than ten times.
That is very unfortunate...good luck.
Damn, I guessed I missed my chance to say no. (If it's going to be a pony/human pairing) Well, good luck on your story.
About the death of your uncle, I can't really empathize with you because I've never really experienced a family death, (Partially because most of them happened when I was little, and my mom did a good job of keeping me in the dark. But mostly because of a reason I'd prefer not to talk about.) but I can sympathize, I suppose. I'm sure this is cliche, but sorry for your loss.Edit:lol, fak u fagetFIM fiction is one of the only places on the internet where you can say someone in your family died, and people will actually give their condolences. That being said, you have mine as well.
On an unrelated, brighter note, the romance plot! I'm excited to see where you take this. You really haven't gone into specifics, so I'm trying to guess who he's in love with, and I keep coming back to the same answer. A human. A girl form Earth. It could add a level of "needing to get home" to the story, and make for intersting conversation with the ponies.
Although, it's probably Twilight.
Condolences Cloud.
On business, I am interested on how you're going to handle a romantic sub-plot. I expect that there's gonna be a new human in town, a girl, that'd be interesting.
If it turns out to be a pony-human pairing, I have no complaints. Just make it natural and believable.
I have confidence in you and this story.
Good luck!

Well, here's the thing: The 'romance' itself is PonyxHuman, but there's a little something more from Keys past that's going to rear its head. 'm sure you'll all find it... interesting, I guess.
Stay tuned. NEXT TIME, ON THE PIANO MAN.
So we have the declaration of PxH, and more backstory for Keys!
Ugh, good grief Keys, just tell us your name.
Okay then.
Waiting for update.

I don't mind a bit of romance, but if it's between a Pony x Human, then it's overdone before and just plain sick. Again, I don't mind romance, but I have a different opinion on Pony x Human romances, but it wouldn't change my opinion on how great this story is. Keep up the good work!
I am... nervous about this news. Nobody loves some good shipping more than me (apparently it's all i can write), but I know this story wasn't started with romance in mind.
That said, I definitely see it working within the context of the tale. Keys is surrounded by beings who are quite similar to humans in mannerisms and culture, and over time, his familiarity with acquaintances can grow as a result. Naturally I assume Twilight, as there have been what felt like underlying tones of interest in her that went past curiosity.
Or who knows, you could throw me for a loop and have him bang Tia out of revenge for her suspicions.
Sorry for your loss, friend. Take it in stride.
403886 hahaha
Well, I guess I'll wait to see how this romance turns out. As much as I don't want to say it though, if it gets weird then I'm out. This is a huge decision you've made for the story and looking back to your first piano man story I feel like I'm reading an entirely different fan fiction. Im not saying thats a bad thing at all and I actually am kinda amazed that you were able to take a story that deeply captured the dark emotions of "Keys" in his enslavement then change his character greatly when he was released and introduced him to the many other characters, Twilight Sparkle in particular. Im assuming that is who the relationship will be with.
That aside, I suggest you have Keys interact with some other characters. The interaction he has with Twilight is great but I feel as if the other mane 6 are being isolated from Keys. It also wouldn't hurt to throw a few background ponies in there.
And I'm sorry to hear about the death of your Great Uncle.
