    "Dark Days" update.

So I've just finished the rough draft of chapter 1, and am now entering the revision phases. There's a lot of stuff in here that I didn't expect or even think of when I started writing it.
I don't have a timetable for its publishing, there's some work to be done, but now that I have the majority of the work done, it's all riding the break downhill from here.

Either sometime this week or next, I'll be coming back down from Mt. Sabbatical, and start to work on my stories again.

Aside from going back over it for editor submission, WORLDS COLLIDE really doesn't need my attention right now. Parts 15, 16, and 17 are written, and exist in a pre-Tarbtano editing state, and . I'd like to release the next part sometime within the next 30-days from now.

Path of the Unforgiven: due to the chapter size as of recent, it's kind'ov an ordeal, and as eager to get back to it as I am, it'll take some stamina to get through. The content is set, but since so much of what I actually type is off-the-cuff, it just takes time to craft.

Smaller stories: (Tales of the Unforgiven, Avengers Assemble, The Land Primeval) These will be the next things I work on to get chapters out. Not only because they're shorter and take less work, but because they need the attention for a bit. AA only has a few parts left, so I can close that up relatively quickly. I know what the next two episodes of Tales will be, but I can more-or-less crank those out in a single night. Land Primeval will take the most work; it's only getting started, with a lot of content ahead of it. Plus, TLP is the first in a 4-part prequel series, So that'll be an ongoing project for a few years.

So, what would you guys like me to get to work on next? Godzilla, pony, or otheriwse? Something new and/or original? I do have ideas for other, new stories in mind, some pony, some not.

I'd like to see more Godzilla but what do you think of the prospect of working on a story centered around other Toku stuff like PR or Kamen Rider? How about a more grounded SciFi?

Somehow, just somehow, I knew you'd be the first to comment.

Um... while there's plenty of Pacific Rim material to work with, I don't have any ideas for a story in that world. I like Pacific Rim, just got nothing for it. If I did go there, It would likely be it's own involved project, and not something I could do quickly. So there'd be the cost of investment in that project and the time it'd take from others.

I don't know anything about Kamen Rider other than he has a beetle-looking helmet, and rides a crotch-rocket.

For more ground sci-fi, if you're referring to somehing in the vein of Star Trek, Babylon 5, or Stargate, ummmm.... Not really? I mean, I'll be introducing elements like that in future G|M Saga stories, and I've got a number of Universal Monsters stories that are kinda like that. I was just never a fan of shows like Trek, so I don;t have much of a connection to it. If I did, it would most likely be an original story, and not a fan-fic.

4463598 Probably because how many others actually bother?

Sorry I should've been more specific, i meant Power Rangers. I'll also admit to knowing little of Kamen Rider as a whole since I'm more familiar with Dragon Knight and that show is mostly different from the rest of the series.

Oh, Ahhh... No, I stopped watching Power Rangers in like, the 3rd season. So, I've no plans for anything Power Rangers related.

4463623 Fantasy for a different franchise?

Off the top of my head no... but I do have an original Fantasy-type story that I started back in 2006. The plot got kinda out of hand 'cause it was the first long-term story I ever worked on, and I never finished it, but I do think of it every now and then.

4463761 i was thinking of an original story myself, a SciFi/Kaiju hybrid that hilariously enough the currently in-production Godzilla anime is exploring but i came up with it before it was even considered. :rainbowlaugh:

4463819 Do it anyway. Imagine how I felt, after having written the psychic battle between Xavier and SpaceGodzilla months before, I saw a similar thing happen in X-Men: Apocalypse. I was like "Man... now everybody's gonna think I stole it from the movie".

4463839 it's not that that's stopping me, it's more of a crippling lack of motivation.

My worst enemy is my laziness, i just find it funny that the Anime movie is also doing it.

Wish I could sympathize. I caught the writing bug a decade ago, and now it's embedded in my skin and laid its eggs.

The only rival it ever had was Backyard Wrestling. Goddamn that was fun.

4463867 was that you in the video?

I remember playing unofficial football with my classmates in my old high school, it was pretty fun and i kinda miss it, i remember that one time i tried to tackle a guy and got flipped over. :rainbowlaugh:

4463890 Yeah, that's me in the camo pants. Guy in white shirt is still one of my closest friends. The camera guy I went to Iraq and Afghanistan with.

I played football in HS, not for love of the game, but rather I just liked to crash my body into the opposition. At one game, I was coming in for a tackle while a teammate was holding the ball-carrier, the guy saw me coming, and ducked right when I would have speared him, dove head-first into the ground. I wound up with a clump of grass and dirt in my facemask that I decided to leave in for the rest of the game.

4463911 I just realized you're a military guy, I'd like to ask you about your experience since in my original story, one of my protagonists is an alien soldier.

So essentially I'd like some tips on how to write military stuff.

4463917 Sounds fine. Let me know what you need.

4463922 do you guys get Martial Arts training for when the enemy gets up close and personal?

4463923 In the Army a little bit. But the focus is to rely on your primary weapon, and your fellow soldiers. Other groups, Marines, Navy Seals, Army Rangers, get the cool hand-to-hand stuff to greater or lesser degrees. It'll also depend a bit on status, like, regular Private Joe Shmo will have little, but NCO's and Officers will have more.

The army has a standard Combatives method, supposedly amalgamated from all sorts of disciplines. But it's really not commonly done, you have to pursue the courses for your own advancement. You learn Level 1 in Basic Training, but beyond that it's up to you. It's good stuff though, real smash-mouth, not fancy flippy-kick movie bullshit. Plus there's techniques for using your rifle as a weapon (assuming you've run out of ammo), knives/bayonets, and even pressure points.

I've studied martial arts on my own since before I enlisted, bit of Judo, boxing, Aikido, Jujutsu, sword, generic grappling. And I even created a 3-day training course that I was supposed to teach Afghan soldiers.

4463935 Thanks and are there things that could prevent a person from being enlisted or get someone discharged?

Say for example that someone has PTSD?

"From being enlisted"- This sounds like "drafted". You can avoid being drafted for a number of reasons, like being physically or mentally unfit, having family connected enough to protect you. There's always random chance. And there's smaller policies, like tattoos in certain places, certain types of tattoos. Known affiliations or criminal history (like being a gang member or being a felon)

Getting discharged- There are 5 different discharge types, depending on your service, or the nature of why you're being kicked out. They range from medical reasons, contract expiration, compulsory/voluntary retirement, being violent/not conforming, violating UCMJ policy.

Something like PTSD, (or shell-shock, battle fatigue, bullet wind, etc) would probably be a medical, or general discharge, depending on the severity.

4463945 Thanks but I gotta sleep, I have school tomorrow and I'll send further inquiries in a PM.
