So I play space engineers every now and again. It's a relaxing and enjoyable, sometimes even exciting experience when you finally start trying to fly around that block you strapped twenty engines too. It can also be frustrating, like when you realize the ship you built was using ion engines(space) and you're on a planet(requires hydrogen thrusters, which use fuel, or atmospheric thrusters, which work in an atmosphere). Because it's a beta, that means things are always changing. This is fine with me, as I've had fun with other alpha/beta games in the past like 7daystodie.
The issue that comes up is sometimes things get changed and you don't notice. I suffered from this just moments ago. In the game, random ships listed under the faction Space Pirates spawn and fly within about ten kilometers of your base. Usually they'll ignore you, and if you're particularly good at your speed and positioning you can shoot off their own turrets, board it, then hijack it for extra materials and some decent stuff in the cargo hold. In fact it's the best way to get engine parts. One such spawn is the Argentavis. This is considered the only 'true pirate, as it spawns a lot of drones when you attack it. Turns out it was changed, however, to send a drone at your base even at maximum distance.
Imagine a happy engineer, working on building his latest creation, a ship big enough that you can land smaller ships in it with all the wonderful additions a capital ship would use, all set up one piece at a time. I stop, noticing that the one red blip had become two, and that one said about 300m. 800 is minimum for bullets.
that frickin' drone ripped apart my solar panels while I wasn't paying attention
*sigh* Sorry, I'm a little strung out, wanted to B&M some more. Next chapter of Twisted is in progress, start a new job next week(FINALLY), and I'll try to get the next chapter of Substitute out before Saturday.
I play SE and always have a turret or 10 up and ready to go
My recent gaming escapades only resulted me losing a hilarious amount of OW ranked games. It was fun. I also rememnered that I have Space Engineers after this post, and haven't actually played it yet.
I haven't been able to get the hang of that game yet
it could have been worse. In my case, my ironman hard stellaris save got corrupted when I finally reached the end game (it took over 30 tries to achieve that hard difficulty is brutal) and my investment of over 30 hours was gone.
4458280 I usually do as well, but since I turned meteor storms off(I had five Gatling turrets scattered over a solar panel field that wasn't even that big and it still got hit by the two that came close enough to strike it) and I've never been attacked before this I decided to put my resources into my ships.
4458292 Overwatch I assume, never did any ranked. Not a fan of PVP. My first Warcraft pvp game, I think it was the capture the flag one, I was shaking afterwards from adrenaline. I've calmed down significantly when it comes to pvp, but the only one I enjoy is Team Fortress 2, where the rules are made up and the points don't matter.
4458563 always willing to teach someone. Did that for someone else as well. At this point it's almost two games in one. Planets change how everything works.
I play Space Engineers as well. I have a planet base that has a raiding outpost in orbit right above it.
I can't get into space without detouring to get away from the station. On the plus side, all of the aggressor drones it sends after me are easily dispatched and scavenged.
In fact, I hope to have a video showcasing my base up on YouTube by Sunday at the latest. I'll put a link in my next blog post.
*its up now.
