Review #56 - Discord Goes On Vacation, Fluttershy Builds An Ark, Pinkie Almighty

Well, my interwebs works now... woohoo!! Here are, well, technically yesterday's:

As always, I will put my down recommendations, but I truly hope that you to make the choice on whether to read a fic or not yourself.

Discord Goes On Vacation - Doctor Disco
(Comedy, Random)
Discord goes on a vacation, granting Rainbow some of his powers! All hell breaks loose. Everypony has a good laugh!

Review
Discord decides to go on vacation, so he gives Rainbow Dash his powers for a while. Rainbow accidentally makes Twilight crazy. Odd things happen.

This thing is crazy... it has left me with no words. Anyway, this one is not really a laugh-out-loud comedy, but more of a smile on the inside while reading an enjoyable fic. Discord is actually quite accurate to my personal idea of his character, that being a fun, trolling prankster. I can definitely see Discord doing this. Rainbow Dash seems more like the Season 2 Rainbow Dash to me, I'm not entirely sure why, but she just doesn't seem to have developed character traits like she has in the later seasons. The other characters are not important enough to talk about. I actually did not remember anything about this fic before I read it a few minutes ago, not for lack of quality or good content, it actually has those, but because it seems to blend with other fics.

The greatest weakness on this one is hard to say, but if I had to choose one, which I do, I would say that it merges with others so you don't know what it is about.

Recommendation: Recommended.

Personal Thoughts: Man, that truly was good. But you should probably only read it if you want a light-hearted fic.

Fluttershy Builds An Ark by Doctor Disco
This is a sequel to Discord Goes On Vacation
(Comedy, Random)
After the events of "Discord Goes On Vacation", everypony returns to their normal lives. That is, until Fluttershy is charged with saving Ponyville from a flood by building an Ark!

Review
Discord tells Fluttershy to build an Ark because Ponyville is about to be flooded. And she does... but it comes with quite the change to her personality too. No more spoilers.

This one is not quite as random, nor as smile-on-the-inside as Discord Goes On Vacation, but it does still encompass those traits. Fluttershy is, um, wow... yes, wow... wow is the only word I have to describe her in this one. Everypony else actually does not do much within this fic, which I suppose is ok, but still a little odd. This one I only remembered after I read the title, and even then I still some of the same problem of not knowing what actually happens.

Greatest weakness, eh? I would go with it was trying too hard. It just seems way out there with its ideas, which ends up, how to say it, "knocking the reader out of the story."

Recommendation: Worth Reading if you want to read all of them.

Personal Thoughts: I do love Flutter's speech pattern, though.

Pinkie Almighty by Doctor Disco

Discord has been experimenting with how certain ponies react to being given god-like powers. Naturally, Discord makes the mistake of giving Pinkie the powers of a god. And so we come to a nightmare scenario where the end of the universe is nigh and- HIYA GUYS! PINKIE HERE! I'm just here to say you're in for a treat! Welcome to hell! AGH! NOOOOO! STOP!

Review
Discord decides to give Pinkie Pie chaos powers for some reason... he should have known better. The universe gets restarted, woohoo. Not everyone is entirely happy about the whole thing.

This one has: more randomness than Fluttershy Builds An Ark, more laugh-ability, but less smile on the inside-y-ness. Pinkie is rather close to my version of her, meaning more random/ troll and less silly than the show Pinkie. Discord in this one, however, seems more like the show Discord for his character, but he has all the references. The others don't really have a big enough role to talk about. Unlike the others, however, I did remember what happened once I read the title of Discord Goes On Vacation, which was before I read this one's, so it does not have that problem.

You know how the sequel is never as good as the original, right? Well, that is this one's greatest weakness... it just isn't as good as the first one, it's like "too much of a good thing is a bad thing." It lost quality as the universe dragged on. I hope that makes sense, if it doesn't let me know in the comments, ok?

Recommendation: Worth Reading.

Personal Thoughts: Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it, it just is not as good as the original.
