Review #2 - To Guard the Light, Burn Stuff. · 6:07pm Nov 24th, 2016

This time I will be reviewing two stories, they are:

To Guard the Light by 7th Outpost
Burn Stuff by alexmagnet

To Guard the Light by 7th Outpost
(Drama, Slice of Life)

An old stallion is tasked by a mysterious god with keeping the fire burning in an old lighthouse. He guides the way for the ponies of Equestria's past, present, and future, both teaching and learning the simplest truths of life in the process.

Why I reviewed it: It’s description piqued my interest.

Review
A stallion is told to keep a fire burning in a lighthouse by someone, while he keeps it he meets Celestia and Luna as fillies and he helps them overcome their problems. Then he helps out an unnamed mare in the Lunar Rebellion Army, that just lost the war, and he helps with her problems. He then meets Celestia again and they help each other with both of their problems. Next, he meets Luna again and they help each other. After that, he meets Twilight and Cadence and encourages them to keep fighting even though the fight is lost. He then meets an old couple who he encourages to stand strong even though the world is ending. And lastly, he meets Death. He goes with Death to see the last of Equestria fall, then gets offered a choice: get a new life in the new world or die. He chooses death.

There is not really much wrong with this story, except that the ending with Death is a little out there in the whole take-a-car-ride with Death stuff. Very few errors are in the text, which greatly increases it’s rating. The story did not, however, feel very planned out. It felt as though it was written in segments that were then pieced together, and the biggest evidence of this is the part with Death so that marks it down a bit. I do not, however, believe that a “Slice of Life” tag is an appropriate tag for this story; I believe that a “Mystery,” or a “Sad” would fit the plot better.

Score: 10/10 Recommendation: Very highly recommended.

Personal Thoughts: This story is an amazing quasi-philosophical writing with just enough mystery to keep you into it.

The Everfree forest is just like any other forest—except it's full of monsters and weird magic junk, but ignoring that—it sometimes grows out of control and needs to be trimmed a bit. In order to keep the forest from growing too large, Celestia asks Twilight to start a controlled forest fire to burn a portion of it down. It seems like a simple request, but a series of mishaps and misunderstandings lead to some miscommunication and, subsequently, to Twilight setting fire to all of Equestria.

Why I reviewed it: Felt like I needed a laugh.

Review
Celestia’s assistant messes up a letter to Twilight that just says, “Burn Stuff.” Twilight then goes around and does as the letter tells her to do, in other words, she burns stuff.

This story has amazing pacing in all aspects of it. It did not have much for grammatical errors. And it seems as though it was very planned out before getting written. It most definitely deserves it’s “Comedy” tag because it is amazingly hilarious.

Score: 10/10 Recommendation: Very highly recommended.

Personal Thoughts: Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha… (Inhale) Bwahahahahahahahahahahaha.

Thanks a lot for the review, even if you totally spoiled a little! Do keep at it, by the way. I'm sure you'll get quite a few follows with similar tastes soon. I'll leave one, for good luck.
