Reviews #1 - A Light in the Dark. · 1:48am Nov 24th, 2016

Decided to try this review thing, so I hope you guys all enjoy this one.

I have only one review for right now and it is:

A Light in the Dark by EchoWing
(Alternate Universe, Slice of Life)
Fresh from qualifying for the Equestria Games, Spitfire returns to her office to find a potential Wonderbolts recruit tearing up their application in front of her. Getting to know the recruit and figuring out why, the Wonderbolts captain finds herself with another reminder that even the elite aren't perfect.

Why I reviewed it: Because I stumbled upon it and it looked interesting, and EchoWing is a pretty good writer.

Review
Spitfire finds a recruit, named Sunrunner tearing up her application to the Wonderbolts and Spitfire attempts to find out why. While talking to the former recruit, Spitfire discovers that it's because of the "Rainbow Falls" incident, where Spitfire tried to steal Rainbow Dash away from the Ponyville team in favor of hers. After chatting for awhile Spitfire tries to get the Sunrunner to turn in another application, but she turns Spitfire's offer down. Spitfire apologizes to Soarin for trying to ditch him at Rainbow Falls.

This story suffers from the lack of pacing. The beginning is a little bit slow, but it is not very noticeable, the middle gets to feel rather long as Spitfire and Sunrunner talk so that Spitfire can find out why the application was torn up; the end, however, was pretty good for pacing. The story did not have any major/ noticeable grammatical errors in it so that is reflecting rather nicely. Another thing that helps it out is it seems as though this story was planned out from beginning to end before writing, which means nothing feels... rushed. Now, I'm not so sure it deserves the AU tag since there isn't really anything AU-y in the story, but whatever floats EchoWing's goat.

Score: 7.5/10 Recommendation: You already know whether or not this is your sort of thing. If it is, read it; if it isn’t, this won’t change your mind.

Personal Thoughts: This story did not grab me the way others have, but that is mostly because I am not a big fan of the "Slice of Life" stories.

Thanks for the review.

I marked the story as "Alternate Universe" because it's part of my own little continuity, the Quiververse. In theory, it could be part of official canon on its own, but given that Sunrunner is related to a canon character (namely, Sunset Shimmer) I thought it a good idea to hedge my bets.
