Random snippet to prove I’m still alive

“I got the time off!” The familiar voice emanating from the landline handset was jubilant.

A broad grin crossed Sunset’s face. “Great! Y’know, I can’t remember the last time both our vacation times lined up.”

“Four years, seven months, and twelve days.” The dry, and dryly humorous, reply came back instantly. “But who’s counting?”

So, uh, yeah, I’m here. I guess I should have mentioned it earlier, but it slipped my mind. Better late than never, I guess.

    Tidbits

Yes, I’m still around, though I still have nothing substantive for Fimfiction—and I’m not sure when, if ever, I will again. All I’ve got at the moment is a handful of random morsels from my tiny but active mind.

    Not naming names [writing tips]

As I’ve mentioned here and there, one of the (many) rules I generally abide by when writing for Twin Canterlots is: avoid using real-world names wherever possible. It’s harder than it seems—especially when one considers indirect coinages as well as direct references—and I don’t always succeed, but in general I find ways to skirt them most of the time. For the handful of people who

I’d like to continue Lectern’s New and Used Books, but at the moment the well is dry. I’m willing to entertain suggestions or prompts for further non-adventures about the girls, the store, the owner, and anything else that seems germane or appropriate.
So: If you have any ideas, send them in with your box-tops! (Does anyone else remember box-tops?)

Kul suggests doing something with Principal Celestia and Vice-Principal Luna. How can I bring them into the store? Keep in mind, if they were continuing customers, Sci-Twi’s friends would be more likely to know about the store before she introduces them to it, so it would have to be something that would draw them in as new customers.
Queensarrow points out it simply might have been a while since the last time Celestia or Luna shopped at Lectern’s—in other words, since before the Mane Six started attending CHS. Either or both of them might be bookish, which seems reasonable, especially in Celestia’s case. One of them might come in gift-shopping for the other.

You got it, man!

err, maybe some of your take about Principal Celestia and Luna? I always had this head canon of mine that the Principals are actually tribute artists, named Sunny Skies and Full Moon, that styled themselves like the current line of monarchy, the real Queen Celestia XII and Luna X. These two educators are competent on their own, but it was their gimmick that really caught the attention form people. Well, that, or whatever you had in store for them, really!

To be honest, I haven’t given a lot of thought to the sisters. Like Sunny Flare, there isn’t a lot to go on as far as their backgrounds and personalities are concerned. Also, I’d have to find a way to bring them into the store, since if they were continuing customers, Sci-Twi’s friends would be more likely to have heard of it before. As for the particular concepts you mention, I might read a story using them written by someone else, but I don’t think I’m comfortable adopting them myself.
All that said, I’m not averse to the general suggestion at all—I just need to find a suitable plot hook that strikes my fancy! I’ll add your basic idea to the post as a way to generate further interest and ideas.
I confess a lot of what I’ve written so far has been inspired by A) elaborating on information from show staffers that flatly contradicts tropes I’ve seen elsewhere and B) exploring how real-world entities (physical, biological, or organizational) work while still staying more or less true to the storytelling tone of the origin franchise. That may not be the most noble of motivations—and may be the reason for at least one of the down-votes—but so far it’s generated what I hope are good stories.

Heh, Celestia strikes me as a book person. Luna may be as well if not in the same degree. In either case one of them getting a gift for the other there isn't a far fetched idea, maybe it has been a couple years since their last visit?
