Random snippet to prove I’m still alive

“I got the time off!” The familiar voice emanating from the landline handset was jubilant.

A broad grin crossed Sunset’s face. “Great! Y’know, I can’t remember the last time both our vacation times lined up.”

“Four years, seven months, and twelve days.” The dry, and dryly humorous, reply came back instantly. “But who’s counting?”

    Everfree Northwest

So, uh, yeah, I’m here. I guess I should have mentioned it earlier, but it slipped my mind. Better late than never, I guess.

Yes, I’m still around, though I still have nothing substantive for Fimfiction—and I’m not sure when, if ever, I will again. All I’ve got at the moment is a handful of random morsels from my tiny but active mind.

    Not naming names [writing tips]

As I’ve mentioned here and there, one of the (many) rules I generally abide by when writing for Twin Canterlots is: avoid using real-world names wherever possible. It’s harder than it seems—especially when one considers indirect coinages as well as direct references—and I don’t always succeed, but in general I find ways to skirt them most of the time. For the handful of people who

Yes, I’m still around, though I still have nothing substantive for Fimfiction—and I’m not sure when, if ever, I will again. All I’ve got at the moment is a handful of random morsels from my tiny but active mind.

Counterparts
In line with my calculation only about one in five people in the Equestria Girls world has a counterpart in the other world, neither Lectern nor Cook have counterparts, but Rose does: a pegasus officer in the EUPG, interred in the military cemetery above Canterlot where I set a scene in Mister Cook Goes to Canterlot. Said counterpart’s injuries would have outmatched Equestria’s medical capabilities, as TCC56 suggested—even if she had survived falling from altitude in the wake of sustaining those injuries. If I come back to writing here, I will have to show Rose visiting the gravesite, struggling to assimilate what is in all a very strange situation.

Where does military attaché Colonel Brass live?
Rose has lived in W3-341, a top-floor room in one of the accommodations buildings on the Campus, since the facility opened. Though some furnishings are standard models purchased in bulk for all the rooms, Rose had and has the pull for some customization of what has become her room. Why live there? Several reasons.

  • She likes comfortable and reasonably fashionable surroundings, but doesn’t require a lot of space.
  • Still, she doesn’t like being cramped, either; the room is almost twice the size of her old efficiency apartment and has a vastly better view.
  • She doesn’t have to commute, and when she does want to go into town she can take the shuttle bus.
  • She’s on-site most of the time in the event of unexpected emergencies, whether local or interdimensional.
  • There are several gated trailheads at intervals along the perimeter fence, through which she can gain access to the beautiful wild parklands surrounding the Campus and go on trail runs or hikes.
  • The staff of the canteen where she eats most of her meals have learned to cater to her idiosyncratic dietary preferences and needs.
  • She does pay a token rent out of her salary, but it’s a pittance compared to what a normal apartment or house would cost her. And she gets housekeeping service.

Space Opera
Occasionally I toy idly with the notion of trying to warm up again by starting Space Opera, the what-if sci-fi animated action-adventure series I’ve alluded to before. I also might open chapters/“episodes” to other interested folks. After all, most television series have multiple writers! Of course, given Fimfiction’s prohibition on screenplay format, the anthology would have to be presented as “adaptations”, much as James Blish and Alan Dean Foster did for Star Trek back in the day.

Good to hear from you! And yes, I imagine a number of people would be interested in helping with a pony space opera, myself included.

It's probably a good thing Rose first crossed the mirror in such a crazy time - if she'd come over normally, it could easily have turned very awkward because there's good odds somebody around the Palace would recognize her by her counterpart.

Also, super enthused about the possibilities of Space Opera. It was a great idea then and it still is now.

I tend not to move quickly by nature, but if you two in particular are interested I will start giving it serious thought. My biggest hurdle, consistently, is starting—a scene, a chapter, a story, whatever, it’s always a chore finding a good beginning. If either or both of you want to consult, I absolutely am open to that.

I'm always up for bouncing ideas. Discord may be a better medium for it, though.

Dude, you know I would never say no to that.
