    For my next project

I want to start writing the sequel to my self-published book Reverting Scales. I was going to wait, but it seems it isn't progressing that much in sales, and I don't have the means to pay for advertising.

    Boom! Big Reveal!

Almost done with the Helluva Boss fanfic. Sorry for taking so long. Started working as a...dishwasher. One chap left.

When it's done I'll finish a project I put on hold here then resume Left Behind: Sunny Disposition (it already has two chapters finished, and the third should be done quite quickly).

Really? No one read 'Eyes in the trees.'? · 8:42am Nov 1st, 2016

...I guess I'm already stopping the streak of horror stories then...And I put so much hidden symbolism to explain why what was happening was happening in it.

Give it time man. Give it time.

4280100 When my stories get barely 50 reads, it usually means they won't get attention. I just wanted to see people read it and try to decipher it.

It got 52 views and six comments, so some people did read it. I'm interested in it too, largely even, but there are so many Nightmare Night fics released, especially on the day itself, and I can't read all of them, unfortunately.
That's why it's hard for a Nightmare Night fic to get views on Nightmare Night, there is lots of competition.
The same happened to my fic about Diamond Tiara too, I even got only one vote so far.

I have it on my to read list right now, I'm just really busy and haven't gotten around to it due to going out with a friend on Nightmare Night and starting up a business. My story Equis is Breaking didn't get that many views, reads, or comments either. It's the competition issue, and the fact very recognizable writers stories are generally the ones people migrate towards even if lesser known writers make great work too. If it makes you feel better my stories only just started topping one hundred views.

I'll read and comment on Eyes in the Trees after I'm done with work.

i read, liked and Favorited...

4280275 Hmmm. I wasn't really writing it for Halloween, but, I'll take this into account next time. Thanks for the information.

4280299 Well, all your stories are well received, so there's hope yet that you'll get an 'icebreaker' story, as I call them.

4280300 Did you likefavoritecommaslashsubscribe?

What I mean are horror stories released on Nightmare Night, no matter if they are specifically about Nightmare Night or general horror.
The site gets flooded with them on the 31st, with more than the readers here can read.
I still want to read yours, though. It's one about Sweetie Belle, so it's naturally high up on the list, and now that I know there's symbolism in it, I'm even more eager to read it.

4280334 Oh, I understood what you meant. I was just mentioning that I didn't write it for that purpose. Now there's one more idea coming to mind for a horror story and I need some time to work on it.

4280329
Well though they are well received, and I already have a down vote stalker, it doesn't change that I am still fairly unknown. In time an "icebreaker" may happen, but that is up to others taking the risk to read my work. That's the risk we all run with writing works, there is a chance we won't get noticed for a long time.

I have no doubt in a few weeks "Eyes in the Trees" will get far more views and comments than it has now. A very good positive this story has is it isn't just a Nightmare Night tale, and can be found any time of the year and read. So there isn't a limitation of sorts related to reading it, which will give it a better chance long term. Speaking of your story, I just finished reading it and left a comment. It is a wonderful unnerving tale and I would like to see a backstory added to it if possible.

4280368 Ehh. My ice breaker was 'From man to mare', which I'm preparing the rewrite for as it was written back when I first s tarted to write, so teh gramm ur iz bahd. I got lucky because it's my third story.

That being said, the whole backstory is in there.:pinkiecrazy:

4280342

What's the story about? Or is that a surprise?
I'm asking, because I'm wondering if you would take requests. There is a rough idea for a horror story I've seen and, even though it's not one of my personal ideas, I'd would like to take it over and write it cause no one else does, but I have so many other story ideas and even quite a bunch of stories that rot around for way longer than they should, so I can't.
But since I've seen you're into horror stories, I wonder if you would write it if requested.

4280410 I have two ideas, with a third in development, but they seem stupid to me.

One of them being how the 'Sky' (The facial expressions represented by animals and clouds moving about) talks to one of the characters and starts to warp the world around them, making them inevitably go crazy as it mocks everything they do.

The other one involves one of the characters' bad ancestors starting to talk to them in their head and their spirits to eventually take over their body and perform heinous deeds while they're incapable of fighting against them simply because of how many there are.

Requests? Ehhhhhh...I'm not so good with those. I tend to shy away from what other people make because it feels like theft and I'm better using my own creations. It's why I had to contact an old writing partner when I imagined a goddess of sadness and grief for my Lux Locus universe because I had realized he created one first and didn't pay attention beforehand.

Also, zyhenderson here also asked me to write something, but it couldn't really be done...Well, go ahead anyways. I need to improve myself, after all, and I'm currently training.

Here's the idea, I quote it from a thread I opened:

12. Horror fic. The skull that Petunia found is actually a dragon skull and it turns out that Ponyville was built on an ancient and holy dragon burial ground. When Petunia dug up the skull, she disturbed the dragons that are buried there and now they want revenge and come back from their graves to attack the living.....

This would be a fic centered around Petunia and her parents, when they try to survive the attacks of the undead dragons.

4280460 ...Native American Burial Ground trope?

4280496

In whatever direction you want to take it and whatever style or twists you want to give it. This is just the basic idea.
I don't care about "tropes", classifying fiction so much just kills creativity.

4280500 I just call it a 'trope' because it's used so much.

4280508

Where? As far as I can remember, I only ever saw this idea used once and I don't even really remember anymore where that was. I don't think it's very common.
But either way, creativity is endless and personal ideas can change everything. I'd would like to see what spin you can give it.

4280516 Poltergeist, Simpsons, Family Guy, American Dad, South Park, Venture Bros. I think the Shining as well, but I haven't seen it in a long time and don't plan to rewatch it.

Hmmm. Well, that's not actually that much, is it?

4280527

I wouldn't even count "The Simpsons", "Family Guy", "American Dad" and "South Park" to it. None of these are horror shows, just comedy, with often very questionable humor, so these are essentially just funny movie parodies, nothing that can be taken seriously.

"The Shining" is just taking place in a hotel that saw a lot of murder and general crimes, so it's plastered with negative energy and haunted.
I don't recall anything about an indian burial ground being involved with that and if there is, the movie didn't really use it, other than with a short mention.

I don't know "Venture Bros.", so this leaves only "Poltergeist" and even there I'm not sure if an indian burial ground was involved. At least the first movie was just about a cemetery that was not properly displaced (the bodies remained in the ground, only the gravestones were moved) when new houses were built there, which made the spirits angry.
Maybe there was something about that in one of the sequels, but I don't remember those anymore.

Other than that, I can't think of anything. Seems like a pretty fresh idea.

4280547 It is a trope on tvtropes, though. Hmmm.

I'll see if I can turn it into a story, but I'm currently working on psychological horror, and this one is general horror (Not that Eyes in the leaves was proper psychological. It's the hidden details that give it its sad/psychological classifications).

4280407
I am going to figure this backstory out if it takes me months, you are very good at hidden symbolism in your tales and now I must decipher so I can know what happened.

That's lucky timing for an icebreaker, currently I have a backlog of almost sixty short stories and five unfinished series. Hopefully the icebreaker will be one of those, then again it could take till story one hundred.

Glen Gorewood

4280552

Maybe it could work as psychological horror too? "Silent Hill" is, at its core, about a town that's haunted by ghosts and demons because of a religious background and several dark rituals having happened there, but it still plays with the minds of the protagonists and is classified as psychological horror.
I think I can see a way how it could work, but I'm no expert in psychological horror, so I would have to let you decide if it works.

4280567 Yeah. Supposedly, it was one of the stories that shaped the gender-bending aspect of mlp fanfics. Not sure if that's true or not but, it's fun to think so!

4280568 Hmmm. That's true. With heavy modification that could become a proper length story with unique aspects, but I have Deer Me to tend to with long stories.

4280576
Well that's a good thing for an icebreaker story. Even though you are remaking it I am going to go read it now.

Glen Gorewood

4280576

I know that very well. I'm in a trap too currently, with several unfinished stories because I wanted to write more than I could, and I've seen that you have several unfinished fics as well and don't want to lure you into the same trap.
But I wanted to bring it up for consideration, in case you find time for it one day.

4280579 I only replace the chapters. The other four need work, ESPECIALLY the fourth one.
4280585 The unfinished fics are because no one gave the stories any attention and, thus, I lost interest in them. Inkitt helped clean the 'poison' I got from 'Shooting Nightmare' which was instant gratification acquired from comments.

4280600

I see. I think that, if the story is written well, with lots of time and effort put into it, and if you include some other, more well-known characters that contribute to the story in sideroles, while still having Petunia and her parents as the main protagonists, it will be received very well and get a lot of attention.
If you give it a shot, I will definitely support it and promote it the best I can.

4280634 I'd still mention that the base idea came from you. For now, I have a mirror to mess with. It was the third idea I forgot. I shall call it: "Mirror World' or 'Mirrors Reverse Everything'

4280653

Oh, it's not my idea. I only copied it into this thread myself, which I opened to collect all the ideas that the fandom has gotten for Petunia Paleo already in the first week after we've got to know to her.
I would have to dig around on Derpibooru to find out again who came up with it, but it was definitely not me.
