Early New Year's resolutions, and Old Year's conclusions

Well, another year's come and gone. How did the resolutions go? Half and half in my case. Managed to partially accomplish what I set out to do, moving from wondering how to do things to figuring out what to do. I believe I've successfully identified the habits that are hampering or even harmful to me, so that's progress.

    Resolutions for the new year?

Summer update 2: What's Sticking to the Wall?

    Quick update on future plans.

Still working on the original stuff, I think I'm down to the last rewrite of what I wanted to do, only question is what to change in terms of details. Art's had some progress, but work responsibilities and sweet, sweet sleeping problems have caused disruptions.

    Summer update: what next?

Honestly? Not sure. I never publish anything that's not complete, so I'm not breaking any promises there. Thing is, I haven't started on anything new yet, and hadn't lined anything up before the previous one.

Oh, done already? · 8:56pm Oct 16th, 2016

I'm seeing 26 episodes on my usual haunt now. Guess the season ended on a three-parter? Well, darn, now I'm gonna have to watch it :pinkiecrazy: I'm curious how the writers blow everything up this time, and/or how Starlight Glimmer dies. Or Discord. Whatever. No spoilers, please. :pinkiecrazy: At worst, now there are eight episodes I only want to watch once. Still pretty good for a show that hit triple-digits.

Some more rambling updates:

I know I said I'd be more active blogging, and that the Warrior Meet thing would be done last week, but the ending, man. The issue with writing a story that's so heavily image-based, even without taking into account the difficulties of action scenes, is that not all images fit into the narrative as neatly. I also painted myself into a corner on a few occasions. Nothing a good bungee-jump out the window can't fix. I do actually have an ending now, sort of. And it's not a bad ending. It just involves Cheerilee getting some paperwork sent her way, rather than the emotional climax I'd expected. Make of that what you will.

The fight fic has been going much more smoothly, when I do get around to writing that at all. Expect that bonus chapter with Griddy and Slam to be up soon-ish. Warrior Meet... I'm still aiming for November-December release. Got a vague idea of the cover art, just need to draw a pony in a Shredder-like kabuto and I'm set :raritywink: Novel... still kind of sucks, still needs editing, not on concept stage but some scenes need to be added, and I'm not sure where or how. Probably doing the sequel for next NaNoWriMo. Huzzah for more reindeer characters? Now I just need a plot.

As for blogging: I still need to do my big review on Niko and the Way to the Stars (one of my New Year's resolutions, intend to keep it) and I've been pondering on how best to explain why Mysterious Mare Do Well is a good episode, as well as broach the topic of characters doing bad things without getting their comeuppance, and how or why it works. If you speak Dutch: Van den Vos Reinaert will be my prime example. That should tell you where it's coming from. Oh, and I'll be sure to post the stuff I got 3D-printed. It was pretty interesting, actually.

So stay tuned for all that, I'm not dead, I'm just behind on things as usual.

And while you're waiting, have the national anthem for the Dwarven Nations:

I'm kind of embarrassed I didn't find this sooner; it's awesome!

Actually, what happened is that the UK decided they weren't sticking to the same release schedule as the rest of the world. They skipped one episode for censorship reasons (too much cider, apparently), then played the two part season finale, then the episode before the finale (which was this weeks episode, Top Bolt).

So some people are watching it on the normal release schedule, like me, and in that case, Top Bolt was the episode this last Saturday, and the two part finale is next week. Others couldn't wait, and grabbed copies from the UK.

It's a bit of a mess...

Yeah, the finale is a two parter as usual, not a three parter. They just aired the finale before Top Bolt so there wouldn't be part 1 on Friday and part 2 on Monday.

Ah, thanks for clearing that up. Top Bolt, huh? I'll be sorely disappointed if I don't find a dozen clopfics with that title once I start browsing around again.

Also, caught a snippet of the Dutch version of the one with Flutter's brother. They named him Zephyr? Seriously? What kind of unoriginal hacks would name a pegasus pony Zephyr? And his last name is Breeze? The nerve!

Now people are going to think Whimper's dad (Summer Breeze) is related to Fluttershy. I'm not sure if that's a good thing...
