Summer update: what next? · 3:34pm Jun 1st, 2023
Honestly? Not sure. I never publish anything that's not complete, so I'm not breaking any promises there. Thing is, I haven't started on anything new yet, and hadn't lined anything up before the previous one.
I've had a few stories dancing around in my skull, some I've mentioned in other places. One idea is the Fall of Stygian, a sequel to the Enyalius fic. It would show how Stygian has to cope with a changing Canterlot that's becoming less and less of a Unicorn city and more of a 'pony' city. Another would be my first Equestria Girls story, involving Rumble dealing with trans issues, and Sweetie Belle crushing on him, kind of taking the reader feedback on that old trilogy and taking it to its logical conclusion.
But as it stands, while the Stygian thing has a basic timeline in my head, I haven't written anything down yet and I don't think I should. Either one of those two stories is irredeemable junk. All the ideas I've got so far are scenes with a lot of frustration and anger in them, a slow descent into radical ideas, tragedy that gets people thinking, the sort of stuff that ruffles feathers.
And I'm not ruffling feathers anymore. I promised, after all. Nobody wants to read that, I'm pretty sure, and some of the ideas might result in a ban, or a flamewar, or whatever people think is appropriate now. It would be exhausting to write, to little or no benefit. Pony takes longer to write these days, longer than it used to, longer than it should.
I made up my mind a while back about what should be my last pony story. I know I settled on it being a Bastion-centered story, with everyone grown up. I've started debating whether I want all of those characters to even be alive in that story, or for any of them to survive to the end. Bastion's got all my flagship OC's in it, after all, all my darlings, and you know what they say about writers and their darlings...
So yeah, not really sure what's next. Maybe I'll just draw some tarot cards again for a quick oneshot or two. There's some art projects that are taking up processing power at the moment as well, and work is, well, work. At the very least, the quality's gone up since that last stinker, that's an upside, at least. Yeah, some quick four-scene stories, that's the ticket.
Cracker out.
Honestly, this idea sounds adorable!
What makes you think that?

Let's just say I had a few twists in mind, the sort I am, or used to be, known for. And they're not the kind of twists that are taken well currently.
