    State of the Unicorn: Poor

That's poor in both senses, I'm afraid! Though before I say any more, I need to stress that I have a warm, safe home, enough to eat, internet access... the essentials, really. I am not in danger of losing those. However, I won't be doing much beyond those essentials for a while. Without going into boring details, I will very shortly be going in for dental work to be done. Which, as

    So then, Doctor Who

Loved it! A few little quibbles, not all the acting from the newcomers was stellar and sadly parts of the gender-related stuff felt awkward and forced, eg "something a male-presenting Time Lord wouldn't understand", but I liked much more than I didn't. Plus one of my worries about the new Disney-cash-infused Who has been dispelled: this definitely did

    Bloody Covid

Fortunately not in the literal sense! But yeah, I'm currently stuck at home, yet not feeling well enough to concentrate on ponyfic. It's a seriously annoying combination. :pinkiesick:

    UK PonyCon report

This is inelegantly copy/pasted over from the (slightly) nicer looking report over on Louder Yay. Of course, I'm sure you all read Louder Yay anyway because you're such great people, but just in case here's the report here as well...

S6E24: "Top Bolt" · 4:28pm Oct 15th, 2016

Best Wonderbolts episode ever. Twilight and Dash made a highly watchable team, the guest characters were effective and the pacing was good. For those who saw the UK version, one line was dropped over here, though not an important one: it's a second mention of cider with AJ near the end. That doesn't affect the rating, though. This was the effective season finale for us in the UK, and I'm very satisfied with it. ★★★★

Do you guys hate cider, or what?

This episode was a lot of fun, and indeed a better Wonderbolt story then we've seen before. Some arrogance of course, but nothing that made you feel like there was something rotten with the whole outfit.

The new characters had great designs, and the facial contrasts between RD and TS at several spots were great.

Also, air horn :twilightsheepish:

I guess all UK cider must be considered "hard", eh? Shame it was edited out, for it seemed so innocuous. And I thought we in the US were supposed to be the Puritains..

I'm looking forward to giving this one a re-watch in good quality when I get home. For wonderbolt episodes it's certainly one of the best (although Rarity Investigates might still trump it for me). I'm generally a fan of the Wonderbolts anyway (I like Spitfire for example).

4257754 In the UK, non-alcoholic Cider is very rare, if not completely non-existent in most places (you'd have to go out of your way to find any). Filtered apple juice and hard cider on the other hand.. everywhere. And the age rating of the kids TV channels prohibits them from advertising the stuff.

4257878 Same writers as "RI", too -- Songco and Lewis. Those two have a pretty good record in my book.

Yes. As oilyvalves mentioned, if you say "cider" in the UK, people will automatically assume you mean the alcoholic stuff. Imagine replacing "cider" with "beer" in the show, and that's the effect the word has here.
