    Droppin' By

Hello, I was in the neighborhood and had just realized that my last blog post was a bit of a downer, given that it was around the time of my Grandma's passing and funeral. I think I oughta leave you folks with something a bit more upbeat or at least something neutral.

    And Now, A Newsletter

Huh, back in July I said I oughta talk more around here. It's now the day after Christmas and I have not, in fact, talked more around here.

So, I'll give you the rundown on what I've been up to since then. Warning, it gets a little long in talking about last summer's vacation and about a new fixation I have.

Birthday Bios: Grapevine · 4:12pm Oct 4th, 2016

Heh, just last Friday I did a Bio on his father. Can’t do Bios on either of his sisters, though—I did grab Lemon Zest from EQG3 and adapt Toola Roola from her G3 counterpart, so I don’t count them as OCs. Though I could cover any cousins of his if I felt like it. :trollestia:

Also, I know that you’re all thinking that he’d get along with Tree Hugger. XD

Anyway…

Grapevine was born in Aura Springs on a warm fall day. His parents loved the easygoing attitude he had from day one, and he was relatively easy for them to care for compared to other babies. He rarely cried outside of his needs, and he liked playing little games with his mother.

However, when he had refined his walking ability enough to travel far, he got curious about the forest they lived near, and started to explore it. Naturally, he’d always bump into some wild animal that thought he’d make for some pretty good lunch. His father, Fallow Track, would come to the rescue just in time, and talk the animal out of eating Grape. If the animal didn’t listen, Fallow knew exactly what buttons to push to make it stop.

Grape was witness to his parents’ disagreement over boundaries and what should be set. His father argued that Grape needed them in order to be protected and know right from wrong; his mother had too much faith in his still budding conscience and believed that any boundaries could restrict him from coming to his full self. Grapevine leaned more toward his mother’s philosophy, though several other encounters with hostile animals made his see where his father was coming from.

His mother would bring him on visits to the local hippie commune, and he made plenty of friends with the foals there, a filly named Tree Hugger included among them. He appreciated the lifestyle of oneness with nature, meditation to feel its magic, and all kinds of love all around. They were often in a blissful, psychedelic high from the magic of the town’s namesake springs.

He was confused over why his father never really cared for it. After all, Fallow did want Grape to have a love and appreciation for nature (and to be careful in it), and he thought that this lifestyle his mother was showing him was perfect. After all, it felt good, so why shouldn’t everyone embrace it? Even at the tender age of four, Grape was “enlightened”.

His sister Lemon Zest had arrived, and she turned out to be a bit more rowdy and troublemaking. Grape tried to be a good big brother to her, but he feared being a hypocrite (like his mother getting fed up with her being rowdy and bossy toward her peers) if he set his own boundaries for what she was allowed to do with his things. All he could do was repeat “peace and love” slogans to her, much to her confusion. And when he tried to immerse her in the culture on trips to the commune, Lemon did not like it at all. He eventually gave up and let her be.

While he knows where his father is from (and loves to visit Sorrel Canyon and see the wonders there), he’s always been curious about where his mother’s from. Whenever he asked, she always said that it made her uncomfortable to talk about it. The most he ever learned was that apparently she had a sister. However, when his mother was going through a third pregnancy, his father announced that once the baby was born, they’d go to meet this sister of hers and any other family.

It wouldn’t come to be. Grape was eight when his mother died in foaling twins, only one of which survived. In his grief, he spent most of his time with his friends in the commune, though they sometimes visited (along with Fallow’s more mainstream friends) his house to help the grieving family. Both Grape and Lemon were at least happy that their baby sister, Toola Roola, survived. They both tried to get her into their interests, but soon learned that she only appreciated the aesthetics of both.

Grapevine never really changed much from when he was a colt. He was still as mellow as ever, and he hardly has much emotion aside from bliss in his day to day life. He has gotten angry with Lemon Zest trying to boss him around (since he won’t act like the oldest, she will) while still being rather chaotic, or when his father expresses more support over a hard-working domestic life over the peaceful and loving communes, which got Grape of accusing him of supporting “The Mare”.

Still, along with his old friend Tree Hugger, he agreed to be a part of the Society of Preservation of Rare Creatures when they were adults, and they got to meet new friends. Grape was happy for Tree Hugger when she befriended a pegasus named Fluttershy.

While he rolls his eyes at Lemon Zest attending college and becoming more in tune with the rules of society, and Toola Roola preparing to go to a formal art school, he’s not going to argue with their choices. He really loves his sisters, and though he and his father don’t exactly see eye to eye, they love each other too. They don’t bother him too much about his lifestyle, so he won’t bother them about theirs.

In the meantime, he lives a relaxed, peaceful life within the commune.

A life of contemplative serenity and oneness with nature isn't for everyone. I have to respect Grapevine's philosophical consistency, though. You can't force people to relax. You can't order them to be free. They have to make the choice of their own accord, and if they don't, you need to accept that. He's definitely a lot more enlightened than his mother ever was.

Can’t do Bios on either of his sisters, though—I did grab Lemon Zest from EQG3 and adapt Toola Roola from her G3 counterpart, so I don’t count them as OCs

Both are, however, your OC's in terms of their histories and personalities in your G4 Tommyverse. Pony Lemon Zest isn't the same as Humanoid Lemon Zest, and in some ways G4 Toola Roola would be even more different than G3 Toola Roola, as G4 is a much harsher world.

Eh, if you want to get all technical about it...

Though, I already have enough Bios on my plate with the characters I created from scratch (and even then, I keep making more that still need bios, but I don't want to stuff them all in October/November/December... only new birthday that I've successfully integrated in the later half of this year is Steel Wool's). So, I still file those two under headcanons for officially made characters of... any MLP canon (be it the show itself, the comics, EQG, or previous generations).
