Staving off Writers Block · 7:30pm Jul 3rd, 2016

I have really bad problems with writers block. As everyone who follows my stories knows, I usually have very large stretches in between every new chapter.

Its hard to keep focus on something when you plant your face into it and then proceed to wear it into the ground, so dividing my attention usually lets me still make progress in something when I do get around to writing.

So I went back to one of my old stories, wrote up a chapter for it. Now all thats left to do is spiff it up, and a story I haven't payed any attention to for over a year will once more continue.

What are your techniques for staving off writers block? Lemme know, k?

Play some Bone Thugs & Harmony, eat a Gatorade protein bar, drink a Rockstar energy drink, smoke a cigarette and ignore everything else. Yes, all at once.

Deadlines. You'd be surprised what "finish this or you get no credit on the course" can do for your output.

I've tried doing that. But unfortunately I seem to be a very defiant type of person, and I tend to just ignore the deadline anyway as a sort of spite.

I don't follow the deadline, and I leave it feeling crabby. So thats not a viable solution for me. At worst I outright ignore them, at best I act like a petulant child and drag my heels the entire way, finally delivering a rushed project with one day to go.

Yeah, I was in special ed. One of the things I've been working to better about myself and move past.

After all, what boss wants their employee to dig in their heels and say "I don't wanna do that because you told me to!', they would just fire someone like that...
