    an update

Hi all. I hope everyone is doing well. I've been taking an extended break from FimFiction lately. Had some undesirable interactions with some users. That coupled with some of my creative frustrations just makes logging on... kind of unpleasant? If I do log on, it's usually to try and catch up with the fics I'm reading and then I quickly log off. I'm just feeling drained with the MLP fanfic

It was my birthday yesterday! I'd meant to post the day of, but honestly, I was so tired and busy I just didn't have much time or energy to sit at my computer. Wanna hear a funny story or two, plus see the new playlist I made for Sassaflash? Get it after the jump!

    ponies fix everything

New chapter for What They Hope to Find is out! I talk about what's next after the jump, but before that, a quick anecdote:

Last night, my family was having trouble finding something to watch together. My nine-year-old son didn't have any ideas, but he pretty much shot down every suggestion we had. Eventually, out of frustration and half-serious, I say, "Let's just watch ponies."

    Jinglemas! And Rarijack!

I'm participating in this year's Jinglemas! It's a cute fic exchange that happens every year. I requested a rare pair ship, three guesses which. :twilightsheepish: Today is the last day to join, so if you want in on it, be sure to read over the rules and PM Shakespearicles!

Rarity as a Bard in Ponyfinder · 12:54am Jun 20th, 2016

You can see the sheet I worked on for half the day.

I forgot how long it takes to make Pathfinder characters! :ajsleepy: It's been so long, I wonder if I screwed something up.

I did this mostly as an experiment. I wanted to write a fantasy adventure where are all the important characters had PF sheets... But I don't know now. This took forever. I still have at least three more to do to be able to start writing in earnest.

Ah well... I can shelve this sheet for use in that Ponyfinder game I'm never ever going to play!

Looks good to me. 20-point spread? I guess if making a character from scratch I'd have dropped 2 from strength and 1 from con and bumped Cha to 17, but...

Heh. My wife and I started a "when we can" Hell's Rebels. We're going mythic with what might be called an excessive amount of bennies since only 3 characters and we both like playing OP. She's got a sorceress who's the secret heir to the last legitimate Chelaxian Imperial family-- specifically, the last Emperor's brother and I'm playing a bloodrager who's her cousin in the minor Kintargo noble house she's related to-- they have family ties to the Hawk and make most of their money/influence from being one of the very few routes to trade or talk to the Shoanti. The other character I have is an Abadarian paladin who is sworn to the bloodrager's house and was shocked enough when his young charge more or less went nigh-native growing up... and then became the heir after a round of assassinations... and then found evidence in the temple vaults of the sorceress' heritage. The almost entirely Shoanti sorceress. He's tearing his heir out, but at least I got:

(GM): The old man smiles slightly. "You are an excellent student, Mactus," he congratulates, a touch of fondness in his voice. "The price was paid long ago, by another."

Mactus bows his head. "I thank you for your teachings, Master. She was wearing..." He describes it in detail, and includes that it made him think of the particular abdication he was just researching. "I don't know why, but it won't leave my thoughts on the matter. At first I thought her a costly surety to the young lord; the nomadic tempestuousness with sorcerous strength. After what she said the totemic spirits said... I can't believe that's all of it, Master."

(GM): 'Tarsh' shakes his head slightly. "It is a test, then," he says, sounding slightly disapproving. "He is still finding his way, I suppose." The statement remains unexplained, and the old acolyte - or rather, the one borrowing his semblance for the moment, says, "Not her totems. Another." The statement seems to amuse him, and he pats Mactus' shoulder. "The answers you need most now are in the records you hold. Keep them safe. Your charges were changed, Mactus. You will need your own gifts to keep up. Will you make an exchange with me?"

Mactus blinks bit, and files that away for future reference. "However I am called, I will serve, if the cause is just and the hire fair." He bows his head.

(GM): 'Tarsh' holds out a hand. "Trade me your crossbow and I will give you another. Give me your oath to aid her to the best of your ability until she passes or fails her test, and I will give you the power to do so."

"I am honored, Master." He kneels, trusting his god, and holds up the well-made crossbow. "My oath for your cause; my skills for her strengthening, my eye of her interests, my loyalty paid for, purchased, and unbreakable."

(GM): 'Tarsh' smiles, the fondness evident. He accepts the crossbow from Mactus' hands, and the weapon vanishes. He reaches into his acolyte's robe, and despite the absence of any obvious lump, draws out another. It is a light crossbow much like the one that Mactus just gave up. The body is built of some sleek dark wood, finished with a matte sheen; the string appears to be steel. On the stock, where it would rest against the shooter's shoulder, is an ankh inset into the wood, made of some well-worn and tarnished brass. It practically hums with the power it holds, at least to Mactus' currently engaged senses.

In his other hand, 'Tarsh' dangles an old copper coin from a string through a hole drilled in the middle. The amused glint is in his eyes again as he waits for Mactus to grasp the coin.

Mactus' usually grim face splits in a slight smile. He carefully holds the bow in the crook of his left arm, and grasps the coin in his right hand.

(GM): "Welcome to the Watch," 'Tarsh' says, warmly, and power surges into Mactus, almost overwhelming before it's yanked back and out of his hand, vanishing again. Mactus, too, is changed, the new potential he carries obvious to him. 'Tarsh' winks, pats him on the shoulder again. "Finish your reading, lad," he suggests, and takes a slight step back.

Mactus bows his head. "As you instruct, Master," he says softly, and re-mounts the crossbow on his back. He's not surprised at all that it fits, perfectly. He returns to the documentation. This obviously wasn't just some matter of preferring the wild life; it was a matter of succession. So-- what was the impediment?

And then, suddenly, information he didn't really want. ;)

That all sounds pretty amazing, actually! Husbando and I never bothered much with the official PF setting. He always preferred to make his own custom worlds. Other games I played did the same. Less crunch to get through, I guess?

Yep! I figured since Rarity is my main character, she should have better than average ability scores. Sweetie Bell, who's going to be doing another 3rd party archetype called Songhealer, will have a standard spread. I was going to level Rares to 8-10, and Sweetie probably to 4-5. I'm scared of doing sheets for Twilight and Starlight Glimmer. I can really only see them as wizards, and I just... I hate coming up with wizards. So much.

The justification for keeping her strength at 10 was mostly me fussing about her apparent martial skills from the show. She may not be the strongest pony, but a karate kick from her should still sting! Of course, then I had to close my eyes and ignore the fact that she won't be getting any martial arts feats. I'm still reluctant to drop the score purely from a conceptual angle, but from a practical gaming standpoint I can see why someone would drop STR. I HATE dropping from CON, though. It just... scares me. I don't like being squishy. :twilightoops:

4034870 For us it's a stress (for both of us) and time (for her) thing. I'm under a lot of weight from the pain, etc., and in addition to her job, she has to take care of me. So we use the APs since (a) they're mostly pretty good (b) Paizo is inclusionistic and doesn't make us go "Another white male equivalent. Whee." and (c) Golarion's actually a fairly interesting place. They actually research RL traditions and so forth, and put a lot of interesting background everywhere, ranging from historical fantasy to high fantasy to pulp. There's a couple of glaring exceptions like the Sarenrae Slavery problem that just stand out more because of how non-stupid the rest is. I can come up with a few ideas, if you'd like, for wizarding; I love me some wizarding. I take it we'd be trying to match show 'casting, not "Conjuration is best wizard, Transmuter is second best?" though the latter kinda matches Twi... and Starlight both, actually.

You know, I kinda always figured her as a social rogue.
