So, that went quite well.
To all my new followers: welcome, and thanks, all forty-four of you! Do take a look around and see if some of my other stories catch your eye, and I hope you enjoy your stay. Clover the Clever will take your coats and Star Swirl the Bearded will begrudgingly give you the tour.

To everyone else who favorited the story: thank you for reading. I was really quite nervous about how this was going to go, and I hadn't dared hope it would go over as well as it did.
Big thank yous to iisaw for making the cover, and to iisaw and Aquaman for both recommending the story on their blogs with glowing praise: that was a new experience for me and I'm still not quite sure how to process it (I'm Norwegian. We're not good at exuberance.)

Something I forgot to put in the story notes blog: Readers of my Star Swirl the Bearded stories may find it interesting to compare the themes of "Discourse on Fillies" to a pair of small chapters in those stories. "Interlude: Homecoming" in The Crown of Night and Intermission: Natural Experiments" in The Education of Clover the Clever both sprang from the same inspiration as "Discourse on Fillies", at about the same time: discussions of hope, power, and family. All three are extremely different.

It took seven months to bring "Discourse on Fillies" to completion, and that's the longest I've ever worked on a story or chapter of that size in my life. I wondered often if it was worth it, or if a more responsible author would have given it up as a lost cause and move on to something more cooperative long ago. It is not a good idea to have the Sunk Cost Fallacy as your muse.
But I stuck with it, because I believed in the idea, and the outpouring of support has made it clear that it was the right choice.
Now that it's done I'm going to go back to work on The Education of Clover the Clever, which left off on quite the cliffhanger 
To all the readers who have been waiting to see what will happen to our heroes: I have not forgotten, and thank you for your patience.
