'Scaleless' canon vs. series canon. · 9:11pm May 22nd, 2016
So a while back, around chapter 21 I believe, folk found themselves caught a bit off guard when I started introducing aspects of MLP fan canon, having originally believed that the events on that side are meant to line up perfectly with what's happening on the show. Truthfully I've tried to have that be the case for as long as possible but as series six proceeds and naturally introduces new stuff that I can either ignore or try to make use of in addition to my favored bits from what fans have come up with, I must acknowledge that there comes a time to draw the line.
The reason I bring this up now is that, quite to my own surprise, I think I may have finally found a role for Starlight Glimmer to play in 'Scaleless'. Of course if I follow through on this then it's going to bring up the inevitable question of where the heck has she been all this time? The behind the scenes answer is, honestly, I really wasn't planning on having her appear at all due to being somewhat biased towards Trixie. She came first, proved herself a much better foil to Twilight, and I still believe the show's writers shot themselves in the foot by not making her the new second unicorn for the main cast. Granted they have since tried to fix that by making Starlight and Trixie be friends so I'm not too upset.
Anyway, back on topic, going forward this is the current canon for 'Scaleless' that I've come up with, subject to change depending on whether any new info comes to light that I can use:
On the MLP side:
- The history of the pony tribes happened as is, with the exception that they were united by the information in the Annals bequeathed by Solaire. This does not mean none of the ponies had magic or any special abilities beforehand, merely that they augmented their own skills with Solaire's offerings and reached a state of harmony and peace as a result.
- The events of series 1-4 happened as in the show, with the following tweak of Fluttershy being Scootaloo's birth mom and taking her back at some point towards the more recent time period of the show.
- Sweetie Belle and Button Mash are as close friends as the former is with the other CMC.
- The CMC have gotten their cutie marks.
- Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon have made peace and are now friends with the CMC.
- Starlight Glimmer has been redeemed but has NOT become Twilight's student due to Twilight becoming such under Seath. Instead she's taken up a role as a scribe and spent most of her time at the Royal Archives in Canterlot trying to catch up with what she's missed out on during her exile.
- Starlight has been kept abreast of the events of 'Scaleless' but has not gotten involved yet due to being preoccupied with trying to research the connection between Lordran and Equestria on the orders of Celestia.
- Starlight and Trixie have not yet met and are not yet friends, though that may change over the course of subsequent chapters.
- Flurry Heart has been born and lives with her parents in the Crystal Empire.
- Ember has not yet been encountered but may crop up later when the focus moves back to Equestria.
- Rainbow Dash has not officially become a Wonderbolt due to there being no open positions currently. She has, however, taken the needed exams and trials and proved her worth, earning herself a spot on the reserve list.
- Because of the aforementioned, Rainbow and Soarin have gotten closer during her training and are now dating.
On the Dark Souls side:
- All neccessary bosses needed to reach the mid-point of the game have been met and defeated.
- The Chosen Undead placed the Lordvessel for Frampt, however, this does not exclude Kaathe from being encountered at some point.
- Due to being kidnapped by the main villain, Solaire has never met the Chosen Undead and she in fact is not yet even aware of his existence.
- Princess Dusk has been freed and met in the main game timeline but has not yet been rescued from Manus in the DLC timeline.
- Priscilla, of course, is the daughter of Seath and Gwynevere.
- Dark Souls 2's lore of souls being reincarnated in subesequent ages and games holds true.
- The events of the King's Field games have happened as is before the events of Dark Souls 1, however, due to millenia of time passing and history records not being maintained, they are known only to a select few (Seath being one).
- Velka had a covenant that has thus been almost wiped out due to Gwyndolin's machinations.
Think that about covers what needs to be covered thus far. What do you all think?
I have a question. Is there going to be a mention of Gwyn's firstborn? I mean, he only appears in dark souls 3 and now we know for a fact Solaire was just a regular, and absolutely awesome, dude. But there are a lot of item descriptions and some lore in Anor Londo that talk about his existence and exile.
P.S. Loving the story btw...
Sounds pretty solid to me.
I still hate RD being a wonder bolt. Mostly for the fact that she hasn't progressed he charchter so that she does not have the same pride and ego steel needed to become a wonder bolt. On the dark souls side, what is going to happen when seath sees nito for the first time

Do we? I've read the lore on The Nameless King and while yes it does strongly hint as to his status as Gwyn's firstborn it doesn't exclude the possibility that he is Solaire reincarnated, just now with his godly power restored. If you instead follow the theory that Solaire is part of the Soul of Cinder that still doesn't exclude him from being Gwyn's first born. Since Dark Souls 2 proved that fragments of souls can become new beings as with Nashandra and the other daughters formed from Manus' soul it's possible Solaire's god-like essence took on a life-form of its own while his mortal shell went on to accomplish its own goals.
Either way, I'm again tempted to chalk this up to difference of interpretation.

Yeah that is a shame, specially with the character development her friends have been getting. Still, magic of fanfiction is you can compensate for small points like that.
It's not going to go the way people seem to be thinking. I'll say that much.
*nods*
Ya, that looks pretty solid to me. Now, I am curious in how far DS3 will influence the story (if anything).

I'm more thinking along the lines of that he hasn't had eyes before hand. First time seeing the grave lord
I finally started reading your story after I don't no how long I left it in my to read list.
So far I'm, as I write now, at chapter 8. But I notice you ignore the events of Equestria Girls since Twilight claims she had no reconnaissance of Humans. A particular reason for your choice?
3964998 My only reason is I was only aware of Equestrian Girls in passing, and even then I thought it was an alternate universe type thing, not a part of the actual series canon.
If I ever do anything with EG it'll probably be along the lines I outlined here: Dark Souls and Equestrian Girls

I see. True at first it wasn't sure if EQG universe was it's own things or linked to the series. Chronologically the two first movies would have happened between seasons 3-4-5, but the third one by twilight words undoubtedly link this universe to the main series since it place it during season 5 final.
Anyway enjoying your story so far. I'm also looking into the King's Field games since your mentioning in your lore. Found out there is a compilation of the 4 games on PS2, but urgh... around 200€ and the fourth one seems hasn't joined the PS store yet.
