A clarification. · 4:10am Apr 24th, 2016
After looking a few comments for the most recent chapter of Transdementia, I feel a clarification is in order, since I don't know if there will be a way to put it in the actual story without disrupting the plot.
Sunset didn't use any mind control on Luna, and the vote wasn't rigged. She really did get more votes than Pinkie, because her supporters consisted of the kind of student who actually gives a shit about popularity contests like this. The only reason it was close at all was because Pinkie managed to convince a lot of otherwise apathetic students to take part, but it still wasn't enough.
I rather think this's important enough to go in the story itself, for people reading it in the future who'll miss this blog post. Maybe spend half a paragraph in Pinkie's head near the start of the next chapter, where she observes the reason you give in the spoiler? Or maybe Penny's head, if you think that's more in character?
Because, really, a suspicious recount with a known mind-control mage nearby does sort of hint things...
Ha, fair enough.
That's what I assumed upon reading, myself. Mind control really isn't necessary when you're the heavy favorite.
Though, frankly, if I was Sunset I would have just used mind-control to steal the crown before the election instead of risking anything.
Sorry about the suspision, but it is valid given the type of person Sunset is, and that she has already used such methods.
Also the run around I meant was when Twilght and freinds in the movie were trying to keep Sunset physically getting the crown, and the main even was when she got it and went all demoness. Very sorry for the confusion.
Well, I assume that demoning up and using mind control will fix the whole voting issue. Otherwise, after Sunset gets beat down, she'll feel really guilty, like she didn't deserve to hold onto her win.
Thanks. Like I said, ah well, you made it plausible enough. Insofar as it's all along been a more deconstructionist (and frankly a bit more depressing) take on events.
seriously? Social climbers would be looking for a way to knock the leader down a peg and Pinkie would be a perfect way to do it
3892628 - The reason for using mind control sparingly is that standard pony magic is incredibly inefficient in the human world. That's why she wants the Element of Magic in the first place.
3892473 - I don't actually think it's too important, because, as will become clear as the story continues, whether Sunset actually got more votes than Pinkie is pretty much irrelevant. Thus, if my readers interpret it differently than I do, it's really not that much of a problem --- more like a minor annoyance than anything else.
I mean, if I find some way to work my version in, I will --- this is my story, after all --- but I don't think it's worth the effort to actually force the point into the narrative.
I haven't read the story so far or the spoiler text, but isn't this the sort of thing that author's notes are for?
3893558 - I don't want to make this issue seem more important than it really is. At the end of the day, I don't think that disagreeing with me on this minor quibble will have any effect on how much the readers enjoy the story, so I decided to have my say in a blog post that will most likely fade into obscurity. If it does turn out to be really important, I can always make an author's note later.

Then I'd say that it's what comment replies are for. (But it's hard to be sure without context; and I don't want to spoil myself.)
3893661 - I've found in the past that with comment replies, I end up repeating myself because most people don't read every comment before commenting.
Ah yes the same issue occurs in the USA when it comes to voting demographics. Younger voters do not vote as much and many do not vote unless it is the biggest elections (such as presidential elections while mid term elections often get ignored this is a particular problem in the Democratic party which has a major problem with this in its base).

They aren't necessarily trying to climb the social ladder, they just care more about it. That and the ones that are trying to improve their status probably made the effort to get in Sunset's good graces on the assumption that she would win.

They're certainly not going to read every blog post before commenting.
