Vegan Day 12 · 2:52pm Mar 25th, 2016

Well, it's been going okay so far.

I do most of the cooking in our house, so meals haven't been a big problem. I already used to do quite a few vegetarian meals. Sadly one of the staple ingredients for them, Quorn, is off the menu, as it contains egg. But bucatini al pomodoro is delicious and super-quick to make. The non-vegans of the house can have Parmesan cheese on top. Jamie Oliver's vegan burgers are also excellent. I'd highly recommend both of them, whether you're vegetarian/vegan or not.

For coffee, I've mostly just been using soya milk instead of normal milk. Sometimes, as a treat, I've added a little hot chocolate powder (made of cocoa and sugar, no milk) too.

So far the biggest craving has been cheese. But I've met my body's demands for high-fat-content foods with peanut butter sandwiches and the occasional packet of crisps. (And I discovered some bacon-flavoured ones which are vegan!)

I'm allowing myself 7 days off over my 18 week veganism thing, and trying to decide whether Easter might be a good time to take the first one. Because chocolate. But no, right now I'm coping pretty well, so I think I should save them up for when the serious longings set in.

Sounds like things are going good so far.

Dude! What are you doing with those walnuts!? Mashing them up and turning it into a ham!?! That's not healthy!! Here's 20 bucks! Get a cheeseburger!

Is this a forever thing or just until u can't stand the craving for z big fat juicy cheeseburger

For 18 weeks, but I'm allowing myself 7 days off within that.

3826096 are you just wanting to see if you'll feel better? Or lose weight?

3826103
A mixture of reasons. If I lost a little weight, that would be good. Mostly I want to show myself I can. Usually I choose to eat meat and other animal products — I want to show myself that it is actually a choice.

3826105 I bet you're going to feel amazing when all this is done.
I'm curious to know how your energy levels are and if you're sleeping better

3826185
Oh, I sleep terribly, but that's not for dietary reasons.

While I question your stupid decision to go vegan, I can admire your reasoning (testing control of yourself as opposed to pseudoscience), and commend you for saying "It's going pretty well for me" instead of "I'm instantly so much healthier and you all should do the thing with me."

Moderation is a much healthier choice than veganism

Also when you hit "Meat Week" don't make a thick juicy steak your first meal. Your body recognizes that it requires flesh to operate at full capacity, so it will taste like ambrosia, but your body will also reject it because it doesn't know how to properly digest and process flesh anymore. It will come back up on you.

Also avoid black and red dyes, and hope that you don't require an inoculation for any reason or the majority of medication during your interim, and say goodbye to gelatin. They're all animal products.

3826207 maybe once your body starts to really absorb this new diet- you will. I know I'm ALWAYS TIRED- it's from all the crap I eat.
Good luck with this!

Oh, it's not going to be "meat week". The seven days will be scattered about.
It's mostly cheese and milk I miss, though when I do take these days, I'm sure I won't just stick to those, but will gorge on bacon, ham, cake (i.e. eggs), ice cream, and chocolate.

3826367
Nah. I'm just tired because I stay up past 3am most nights, then get up at 7am. Veganism won't change that.

3826375 oh lol
No it won't.

3826375 Oh jesus that'd be almost worse. Well, have fun with your meatdays. They'll be delicious and awful.
