Retrospective on Part One of Second Chances, Many Changes · 6:32pm Mar 22nd, 2016

I've been meaning to make this blog post for a week now, but things kept coming up (like working on Part Two :raritywink: )

So, overall, I'd like to consider the story a success. By no means does that mean my story is perfect. Don't get me wrong, it's nice to have upvotes, as it helps bring in more readers, but it's not the whole story. I've found the comments much more valuable, especially those offering criticism.

For minor issues such as word choice, gaffes in character interaction, some structural issues, etc., I've been occasionally making corrections to the existing chapters as I have time. You won't need to re-read the story for these as they won't affect the overall narrative.

For the larger issues, most appear centered around the slow pacing of the first part. A close second was the need to focus a little less on the pendant and a little more on Rachel as a character (though I really believe the two are interrelated). Rather than attempt to rewrite part one to tighten it up, I'll carry that advice forward into the remainder of the story. It will serve as a means of comparison to see if I've improved.

I am still on track to resume updates on March 28th as noted in the last chapter of part one. I already have two chapters completed in draft format and have started a third. My goal is to have four chapters done in draft format. Note that I still will be posting one chapter at a time. Having additional chapters in the hopper means less pressure for me, and I can focus my editing time better.

Finally, just a general thank you to all my readers for your support. The response to this story has far exceeded my expectations :raritystarry:

Personally, I still think the pacing actually wasn't bad, just set up for a very long story, but as I've said before, it's still great to see an author here who's willing to listen to that kind of criticism and take it into account, even if I personally don't agree with all of it. I commend your decision to not revise the earlier parts of the story, by the way. In my experience, that only works out in the rarest of cases. Usually, it makes both author and audience lose interest because things stop progressing and nobody really wants to reread everything just for a few minor improvements anyway.

Looking forward to seeing this resume. See you then.
