My My Little Pony / OkCupid experiment · 10:56pm Aug 26th, 2012

I wrote that I like My Little Pony in my OkCupid profile. Not prominently; buried in the "TV shows" section: "I like My Little Pony. Deal with it."

Result: Two months with no messages. This is fewer than expected, but I don't get a lot of unsolicited messages anyway, about 2 per month.

Anybody else tried this? What happened?

No one told you that you were awesome because of it?

You are awesome because of it. (But I'm married, so no go on relationship...)

What about the inverse experiment - posting here in Equestria that you're single? Which I suppose you effectively just did, now that I think about it...

Jonshine

I had to look up "OKCupid" first, so the answer is "No".

I put the "A chicken, a dictionary and a thesaurus are playing tag. Until they are joined by a tree and a marshmallow."
and I got nothing... then again I have only ever gotten three random messages anyways...

I, uh, can't say. But my Facebook profile says that I like the show... people still like me? I think...

Perhaps you should also tell everyone that you are Batman. See what happens then.

I'll say that if I was single and looking for someone, the MLP thing would be a plus, but the "deal with it" might come off as defensive. Maybe there's a lighter way of saying it? Something like "I like My Little Pony. (Really, give it a chance!)"

313899 Church! I asked you not to tell people that I'm Batman!
313908 I'd have thought "Deal with it" was more offensive, and "give it a chance" was more defensive. But you're the one who understands people and subtle stuff like that. So, you might be right.

313966 You're welcome! :pinkiehappy:

oh, wait...

People aren't that complicated. They're like ponies, but more neurotic.

I never get any messages :applecry:

313993 I did another experiment, where I made an account on match.com for a woman, using a photo of someone roughly as attractive as me. After 3 days, "I" had over a hundred messages.

314510 No! Bad Bad Horse! You're playing with people's mindheartzzzazzueoiaehnutodihtapudiehndxkbirdnpt.hmukbc.uehdibrkcth,noudbikcfd.henu;idbfd.ehoudi.gohupidkbco.gpnuidkb.pgcutehidkpbecguthidbo.gpctnhedibp.uehidb dl.dropbox.com/u/31471793/FiMFiction/emoticons/sillyfilly_Derpy_Hooves.png

315784 I know. I ought to call it off. But I really like the engagement ring.

314510 This strikes me as kind of scientifically sociopathic.

...I love it.

Just found this post via index (thanks!)
You (used to) get 2 messages per month? I thought practically no one messages guys on OkCupid. I have read a study by a guy who created many OkCupid profiles with generic self-descriptions and photos of calibrated attractiveness. I considered myself seriously lucky when I got one, ever (I told her so). Either I am wrong or you are unusually popular.
